'14 M235i: folding rear seats to access stuck trunk

After a weekend backpacking trip I went to open my trunk only to find out it's stuck closed. I need to remove the rear seats to access the manual trunk release.

I followed the instructions here, but am hitting a wall:https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ity/1VnXRzHH6t

I removed the rear bench, as well as the armrests and bolts as indicated, but I cannot get the rear seats to fold down.

What am I doing wrong? It looks like there are two points behind the headrest holding it in place. I've tried lifting the backrest vertically then folding out but I cannot get it to unlatch.

Does the headrest need to be in a certain position? Are the seat belt's safety locks preventing me from folding the seats? It seems like when I lift the backrest up the side closest to the window will move but the other side doesnt budge.

Is the rear seat removal on this car similar to a 3 series from that time? I figure I can follow an instructional video on the 3 series since they were much more widely produced, but don't want to destroy things via brute force following the wrong instructions.
