"Exhaust" is too general.

Do you mean a catback? Downpipe? Exhaust manifold too?

The exhaust from behind the catalytic converter back does not carry much restrictions. The real limitations lie with the stock catalytic converter, which simply creates back pressure. Cat back exhausts have minimal PERFORMANCE gains with stock boost. They sure do sound cool though.

+1 get the exhaust for the sound, the weight saving, and additional HP are extras

Getting rid of the cat will yield the most power out of anything you modify on the cars exhaust system, removing the exhaust and mid pipe/resonator will be better for weight savings than power.

Getting rid of the cat is also a state and federal crime.

That's hardly an issue with states that don't have emissions.
