Hey guys


So, I'm looking at an M235i manual. It's got 7 years, 50K miles (85Kkms), and looks to be in good shape. Having said that, I'm really weary about buying used performance cars, so, for you more insightful and knowledgeable people out there on these cars, my questions are:

1 - Are there any known chronic issues on these cars, either electrical ou mechanical?

2 - what specific things should I really pay attention/inspect before buying?

3 - Is the adaptive suspension reliable?

Any other input you guys feel relevant, I'd appreciate it.

I know how you feel, I am old and weary as well...

What year is the vehicle? Aftermarket modifications? There are a ton of threads on here asking about this subject, but without knowing specifics on the vehicle it makes it difficult.

Can you take to BMW dealer and have looked at ? They walk through CPO process and usually can check front end etc for abuse or tracking...also aftermarket items.

If not find local import/BMW tech to check out. $200 may save you some hassle and make you feel better.

The weakest links of the N55 is probably the stock plastic charge pipe (can crack even with stock power) and the upper coolant hose (can also crack easily).

Speaking of Coolant hose, OEM or aftermarket best call ? Seen a few of both.

Does anyone make a stronger aftermarket one? Since the OEM one is so cheap I'll just buy one and replace it every 30k miles.

There are plenty of choices for an aftermarket chargepipe. I put a VRSF on my car for quality/cost. It's piece of mind for the price of a nice dinner out.

Get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) and go for it if it checks out. If you're handy in the garage, there's plenty of preventative maintenance (and actual maintenance) you can do yourself.

I totally agree. I have a friend who works on German cars only in his shop. He is an expert and if I decide to buy a pre owned M235 he said he will go over it with fine tooth comb. Money well spent and peace of mind. Good Luck.
