M235i 2015 - Error 804884 & 804886

Hi all.

Whilst there is no issue with how the rear lights are working, I am getting the following errors after the rear lights were both disconnected/reconnected.

Get the exact same for both:

Fault effect and breakdown warning:
The light cannot be switched on or off
Driver information:

The car is out of warranty, and BMW want £135 just to look at it. Has anyone seen these errors?

Any assistance/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Matt

Any idea: 100k and how many years? It was 75k and 5 years before.

Anyone know if the wire colors are the same inside the car once they go thru the grommet?

I had my 16 m235i come up with this issue. Thank you for posting this video. Helped me so much! I resorted to not soldering and just adding extra ground wire and after many hours of troubleshooting, it is back in order!

now it's my turn

I got the textbook failure in my right side rear lights. Threw some errors last week that cleared but now I get all four errors every time I drive. I plan on doing the fix myself per the instructions in this thread. My question is if I need the new bulb holders too or if my car has the updated holder? If I have the updated holders then I just need the wiring fix part. I have a 2016 M235i with a build date of 11/15.

What ticks me off is that despite being 7 years old to the week this car has only 21K miles on it and has rarely even been rained on. I was just commenting to my wife this week that I was comfortable shelling out for our new X5 last week because this 235i has been so trouble free!

Take it apart and inspect it. Be sure there is no water in the assembly. And look closely at the connectors. A bit of DeOxit if there are no signs of burns.

The fix is easy.

I have the same issue on my 2015 228i xdrive. Got all the yellow lights for my right rear lights. The ground adding fix the issue? How do you know where to tight that ground on the bulb carrier?
Also at the same time i got my right low beam malfunctioning. Could be this related to the same?

TIA

Amazes me that there is even a "Tail Light Repair Cable - F2X, F87 M2"
BMW should have done this as a recall.
Scares the beejeebus that you have cabling which can't take the current,
Any cars burst into flames ?
My light errored and they replaced the unit under warranty

My 2015 M235i has a similar ground wire issue with the right tail light harness that a few folks on here have had. Essentially, the ground wire can't handle the current and can burn up at the pin connector, triggering warnings on the brake, turn, reverse lights. I removed the assembly and indeed, this is what happened. Looking at pages:

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22903545
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ess/1VnZ8zZX2B

It looks like I need to add a second ground wire to the harness after repairing the existing ground wire or ordering a kit like this: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...cable-tail-li/.

Since it is a 2015, my bulb socket is the same as the one in the top picture in link #2 (newtis)...which means the newtis guide showing where to attach the kit's extra ground wire doesn't apply as the sockets changed between 2015 and 16'.

Anyone have experience or advice on where to attach a second ground wire (spliced from the existing one such as shown in the newtis guide) on a 2015 F22 rear light assembly?

TIA!

Before I do the Russian fix …

Cleaned and reconnected and worked for two weeks.

Question, can you replace all the bulbs with LED bulbs (to reduce load) and recode with Bimmerlink or Bimmer code app??

Thanks

Today, I followed video of the “Russian fix” only I was unable to solder the wire to the light socket housing as seen in video as the metal was not compatible with the solder I was using or my solder iron sucks.

So instead I drilled two holes in socket holder housing, one thru the plastic as seen on video, and the other thru the tin metal used for ground. Wrapped the wire around a screw and to connected wire to housing using the screw. I keep the wire around 3 ft long so I could connect this new wire to ground on the car.

Also, instead of splicing wires from cars wiring harness and re-pinning plug, I keep the original plug and ran this new wire from the socket housing to the body of the car. Scrapped some paint off behind the tail light and screwed other end of wire to body of car creating a new ground path. No connectors just used the 3 foot wire and tie wrapped it neatly behind the light when I reinstalled the fixture.

If I ever need to replace a bulb the wire is long enough to place fixture in trunk or on floor behind the car.

Did it today and all is working. Will keep you updated.

Thanks for all the write ups on this thread…

It really is an annoying issue that BMW should have properly addressed. That being said, I made a fairly detailed video about the process I did in order to fix my light. Been working great ever since.

It uses the two parts, the updated pigtail and light assembly (left side.) Links are in the description
