widest tire that will fit on my new setup

Hi Guys,

I got a set of 18 x 8.5" ET35 (square) rims fitted with 235/40/18 4s tires.
I was told only 225/40/18 would fit but I went with 235 ones and they fit so I wonder where the line is.
Would 245/40/18 fit? I have stock suspension.
Is there a calculation that can tell me for sure?
How can I tell the margin I have for my current setup?
Do I turn my wheels and watch somewhere to see current margin?

1) Maybe not. See: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...7&postcount=12.
2) When trying to fit the largest possible tire on a car, there are too many car-specific variables for you to rely upon a calculator.
3) Take the car to a shop that's qualified to tell you and that will show you how they arrived at their result.

Thanks for the reply. I read that thread and the answer is clearly no.

Used to have 35 tires. Too low profile. Don't feel confident going over pot holes and rail crossing.
