18 M240i Headlights Shut Off When Door Opens

I recently traded my 15 M235i for an 18 M240i with Adaptive LED Headlights.

I notice when I shut the car off at night, the headlights turn off the moment I open the door. I don't recall my M235i doing this. It usually left the lights on for 20-30 sec depending on the setting for exterior lights in iDrive. I have my M240i set for 20 sec.

Is this normal behavior now for 18 models equipped with the latest iDrive? I really miss having the headlights remain illuminated especially in a dark parking lot.

I'm sure this is configured in the idrive

Welcome lights.

Yep, user selectable. Mine do the same thing on my 14' 228.

The welcome lights are set at 20sec and only seem to affect door and interior lighting. Any idea where in iDrive you select headlights?

As far as my knowledge goes the headlights themselves only come on LED’s not Xenon’s. On our Xenon headlights you only get the LED angel eyes, the headlights themselves don’t come on during welcome. I don’t know if you can code it or not though...

Welcome lights are when you unlock the car, they turn the headlights on for the period selected....
Courtesy lights are when they stay on after you leave the car, but to activate this you must flash the high beam once before leaving the car, the headlights will then stay in for the period you selected in idrive.

I wish these things were better described in the manual.

When I was coding my E92, I saw something called "Follow me home" under the lighting section. I was able to activate the headlights by double pressing on the trunk key and I could set the duration as well (similar to what 'Bmw Fan M240i' described above for the "courtesy lights"). I guess that's tied into the courtesy lights on the F-series...?
