M performance exhaust part number

Trying to purchase the M performance exhaust from my local dealer. They are saying there are two different parts with different part numbers. They can't tell any different between the parts, but one is 1.4k the other is 1.1k. The part numbers are 18-30-2-406-953 and 18-30-2-424-608. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which I should go with. Was there a revision or something? Thanks for your help.

There is only 1 part number for the M240i, the M235i had 2 different part numbers with the difference being the length of the pipes based on stock or M diffuser being installed. Part number for M240i is 18302424608.

To piggyback off my own thread, how do I got about requesting them to paint the rear diffuser? It comes in black plastic and the parts guy said it’s listed as paintable. I’ve seen it left black as well as partly painted, where the part with the fins are is still black. I am concerned if I ask them to paint it there will be some miscommunication with the person actually doing the work and the whole thing will be painted.

Yup, I plan on getting the whole kit. See above about my question regarding getting the diffuser painted.

I paid $850 shipped for the M-Perf exhaust from Sun Motor cars BMW. You may want to try them and save a few $$

That's a great price. I did get the carbon fiber tips on ebay for $219.00. The system looks and sounds fantastic!!

Whelp, this will be my first and last dealing with my dealership...

Dropped my car off at 8 (appointment) this morning to get my parts installed. 3PM comes around and they're saying they may keep my car overnight now to finish it up. Paying a premium price for dealership work I would think they could at least be prompt about it.

They managed to finish my car by closing time yesterday. The sound is pretty good, still very quiet in the cabin with windows closed though. Honestly it's a pretty minor difference, but I like that it's mostly not obnoxious.

I am not happy with how little the tips stick out from the diffuser. I paid almost $700 for carbon tips, and I can't see them! Is this adjustable in any way? Or did the tech cut the exhaust too far forward instead of using the dimple in the pipe.

Am I making a big deal out of this or is this a pretty shoddy install job? Seems pretty crooked.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing you, but I agree that it doesn't look all that great.
I'd bring up the issues to them.
They can't blame anything but craftsmanship. The parts have fit others perfectly.

The tips are adjustable with a torx screwdriver at the bottom of the tip. But if you are unhappy, yes you should bring it back to the dealership and have them fix.

Also unsure if its the camera angle but your right tip does not look centered ?

How does it look from the top?

Guess I can do the length with the torx bit myself, but I think half the reason they pushed them in so far was to hide how off center the whole thing is. If the tips stuck out further it would be extra glaring just how shoddily mounted the whole thing is. I imagine they'll have to get under the car and screw with the hangers to get the muffler centered and the tips in the proper position.

I know I'm anal about this stuff sometimes, but I'm glad someone agrees. My stock tips were perfect and in a week old car I just dropped close to 2k on getting this thing on and I want it right. I can tell already this is going to be a journey, they had my car for 10 hours getting the exhaust on in the first place and it looks like this...

yeah, I think you are right; by extending them they will look even more off centered. This is how mine are installed:

I DIYed the install so I picked how far they came out and wanted the tips pretty subtle (not sticking out too much)

I extended the tips as far as they would go tonight, and they are right where yours are. I have a bad feeling they cut my my pipe short or something. I’m ok-ish with the length now I guess but I’ll have to take another trip to the dealer to see if they can Center them better...

Paint Scheme

Here is the paint scheme I used. I got my local paint shop to do the painting and then I installed both the MPE and diffuser myself. Top and bottom sections of diffuser are body color. The middle section left unpainted.

I purchased both from Sun. Highly recommend them.

It's certainly not anal to want the job done properly, and at $2K you should expect nothing less.

This is just my 2¢, but I go to dealers only when necessary and would have taken this work to a competent muffler shop.
