Reducing seat belt reach

Are there any solutions to reduce the reach for a seat belt in a 2 series convertible? It is quite a reach back to get the seat belt for someone with short arms and a bad back.

This might work.

That particular part apparently does not fit a 2017 2-series convertible and I don't see one that does.

I will have a 2020 230i convertible soon so I will keep looking . That one looked to be perfect. Maybe i will have to go to a auto recyceler yard and find one that might work.

It looks like it is adjustable for the holes that the headrest support would go through. Why wouldn't this work on a 2 series seat headrest? maybe it could be modified.

Have you tried reaching back with your left arm? Assuming left hand drive. I have a bad back and had a really hard time reaching mine across my whole body since it's so far back over the shoulder. Then I saw a reviewer in a YouTube just reach straight back with his arm and snag the belt at the bottom and pass it to his other hand to buckle. It's way easier

No idea, other than the BMW website says it's not compatible at least with my 2017 M240i F23 when I input my car data. I tend to doubt that, but I have never been able to prove BMW wrong in similar parts-compatibility questions in my 20+ years of owning many BMWs! If someone confirms it does fit F23s, I'd get them simply because they're kinda cool.

This is what I do now. But for $30-$40, the holder is a neat solution if they make one that is compatible.

The belt holder that fits under the headrest posts fits our '15 228i. I also have them on my '06 ZHP coupe. There is a clamp that fits over the belt that can hold the buckle higher for you, if that helps reach it.
Clamping (one for each belt) - part # 72111862636 (superseded by 72118469012) ~$3.50 each.

I have these in my 2015 X5 xDrive35i and they are handy. Allows me to know exactly where the buckle will be when I grab the seatbelt. They came with the X5 but my M240i doesn't have them, so went ahead and ordered them just now. Thanks for the reminder that I needed these and the part #!

Also: is your 2015 228i a convertible or a coupe? Either way, that the belt holder fits your 2015 228i is a good sign that it would also fit convertibles.

It's the coupe.

knyghtryda,
i went ahead and ordered them as they came in pairs and were less than one would cost shipped. I see what you mean re the hinge but maybe if (I ever get my 230i from Germany) I were to mount them upside down the hinge part would lie down like the cobalt one you referenced. Time will tell!

I have a set of those bmw accessory belt holders.

I think they will fit on a convertible just fine as long as the head rest posts are the same as all the other 2 series...

My bet is they list them as incompatible because of where the belt is attached to the car. On my 240 coupe, the belt comes out of the trim higher than on the vert.

Having the belt come out low, then go up over the arm, then back down over your body might put more tension on the hinge part and therefore might break easier.

In my opinion, it should work fine as long as you don't get too rough putting your seatbelt on.

The hinged piece is meant to break away easily in case of an accident. This can be a hassle, but rarely happens on our 2 or my E46 coupe.

Found, after I took delivery of my car, that the convertible seat belt is a lot closer to the seat than the one in the 2016 coupe that I test drove. it does make it easier to reach down and grab. Not sure I will use the headrest hooks but we shall see.
