Hi guys,

I don't post much here but I figured I share a video that I made few days ago.

Mine DD is 18' M5 but because off ground clearance ( about 4.5" ) I skipped it and took M240xi for deep snow drive to work. About 10" snow and it didn't struggle a bit

This car is one off mine favorite car to drive, had 16' M235xi and traded it for 18' and boy is there a big difference in improvements.

This car is awesome!!

It was M235xi had much less torque and shifting was just not as fast as the M240
Love the improvements on interior instrument cluster too.
But in general the torque and shifting is huge improvement!

That's definitely not 10 inches of snow...

Your car would turn into a plow and you wouldn't be able to move...

I measured 9 7/8 some spots was snow drifts
Before I started recording the snow was coming over windshield, the bumper was completely plugged with snow.

Agree with you, but to me there is a trade-off.
With the 2016 M235xi I had, I almost always drove in Sport and loved listening to the shift burps and pops.
The 2018 M240xi is so strong and smooth in comfort Drive mode and I hardly ever get to hear burps and pops from the exhaust.
Other than that, I do like the overall M240xi package better.

I know, I got the performance exhaust and still not as good
It can be fixed with x pipes and down pipes

I agree. I had a E46 with ZSP and drove in 9" with snows and didn't plow. With snows, you drive on top of the snow, not on the road itself, so your clearance is the difference in the accumulated snow and how much it's compressed under the tire.

Little trick I learned driving mine. Poke the DSC (traction) button one time to enter DTC mode. DTC aka Dynamic Traction Control mode retains the Comfort steering and throttle response (I like both of these compared to Sport/Sport+, personally) and you get crazy burbles and pops along with a little more wheel spin allowed before DSC intervenes to keep things safe. BMW claims DTC is for maximum traction in snow and slush, but it's totally a "hidden" track mode if you ask me. Y'all need the M Performance limited-slip if you're going to be plowing the roads with your 2-er!

Thanks. I had the opportunity to test this earlier today when the car was sufficiently warmed up and here's the results.
I was at a stop light and hit the DSC button to turn DSC off and took off to the next light. I was in Comfort and gear shift in D mode. I didn't really notice much of a burp on upshifts, but did notice a minor bit of popping on the downshifts when slowing down. My wife, who would normally make a comment when she heard the burbs or pops on my 2016 M235xi, said nothing, so I'm assuming she heard nothing.
At the next light, I kept everything the same (Comfort mode with DSC off), but moved the gear shifter to "S" mode. Upon takeoff, there were audible short burps on the upshift and louder and longer crackles and pops on the downshifts when slowing down. Beauty, eh?
My wife noticed immediately on the downshifting asking me "O.K. What did you do?" Me, with a big grin on my face.
Damn, that's going to sound great come the springtime with the top down.

Thanks again for the tip.

Ahh, yes. You have the automatic, so I guess moving the gear selector to "S" is still required before the extra exhaust noises kick in. Forgot about that. With the 6-speed, that step is not required, obviously. Glad you are enjoying the car though! Love how these engines sound!

Highly unlikely I would think. With the G2x 3/4 series the manual with xDrive is no longer produced for anywhere in the world so I don't think BMW will produce any new models with a manual transmission and xDrive. The manual is now relegated to the lower powered cars only.

With the new G20 3-series, at the moment you can only get a manual on the 320d, non are available on petrol engined cars for the models available in the UK or Germany.

For new models that have been put on the market since the F22, only the F87 M2 and F4x with the x16 / x18 engines in the Active Tourer, Gran Tourer, X1 and X2 that are based on the transverse Mini drivetrain have had manual transmissions available.

Hopefully there will still be a manual available in the next generation M2, but it may not be the case, as the new Z4 doesn't have any manual transmissions available.

BMW recommends DTC specifically for snow, since it allows a bit more wheelspin. I have always used it for that purpose, in Comfort mode. This year, though, at least so far, no snow. Not that I am looking for any.
