Nav Pro OTA maps update: Too good to be true?

My M235i (build date: 30.03.2015) apparently has the latest and greatest NBT-2 (aka NBT-Evo) head unit, and here is the informational video I found on the BMW pages:

http://www.bmw.com/_common/shared/in...-update-en.mp4

It says the system will be doing several map updates on its own (in the background), and completely free to the user! Now, do you think it might be a right information? It just sounds to good to be true, but if true - well done BMW! Your navigation maps updates have been a real PITA, and very expensive too...

I know the convertibles got the nav with 4G LTE for the OTA updates, didn't know when the coupes would get it but apparently they are now.

2 questions, one thread related, one not (related to possible recent decontenting).

Q1 : Coupe or cabrio? (EDIT: Nevermind, I can see it in your picture).

Q2: Do you have ASD?

We have had this standard in all 2015 model year BMW's from October 2014 delivery and some cars before this. You don't need professional upgrade just standard screen and head unit.

The sim card is not in the head unit it is in the car wiring some where in the rear of cars.

The sim card is only 3g so is very slow this I've been told includes our new 2 series convertible in 2 months. I hope BMW will exchange for 4g sim card later on this year.

How to verify that your car has NBT-Evo?

my M235i Coupe has a March 2015 build date, don't know if I have it...

What you can see in my picture is my old 528xi; didn't have time yet to update it with my M235i pics - but nevertheless, it's coupe.

Q: What is ASD?

At least in the US all convertibles got 4G LTE.

My dealers advice looks to be wrong.

Updating takes place “over the air” (wirelessly) using the vehicle’s built-in SIM card, and incurs no licence fees or data transfer charges for the user. The first model to offer the new-generation Navigation system Professional and over-the-air updating is the BMW 2 Series Convertible.

The built-in SIM card in BMW models will now support the 4G wireless standard (Long Term Evolution – LTE), which provides significantly improved network coverage and data transfer speeds. In this way BMW ConnectedDrive intelligent connectivity functions will offer even faster and more reliable performance.

My 116i was built in October so should have 4g sim card??

Active Sound. Pipes a generated engine noise into the cabin through the speakers with sound levels varying by driving mode settings. There has been some talk that it was removed from cars circa February this year.

Easiest way to tell is to sit in the car in the driveway, windows up, RPM at 2000. Switch back and forth between "Comfort" and "Sport" while keeping the RPM constant. With ASD, the engine note inside the cabin will change with the mode setting.

Due to self-imposed limitations in the brake-in period, I made my entire first trip in Comfort mode - therefore I cannot be sure. Will perform the test you mention at the first opportunity and report back.

That said, in Comfort mode the car is quiet inside - perhaps not as quiet as my F10 was in Comfort (there certainly was no Sound Actuator in my 528xi), but after all a 2-series may not be as insulated as the F10 is; not to mention I'm used to the N20 in F10 noise and now I have N55 in F22. One thing is certain: my M235i is certainly more quiet than the VW R!

Sounds fascinating, but my iPhone 5 is still unable to feed email or text to the iDrive system - just as it couldn't in my F10

Also - if all BMW models are now equipped with their own SIM card (if only for TeleServices and Emergency calls, which is the bare minimum if one doesn't order ConnectedDrive services) - I wonder why it's still not used for say internet radio streaming in Apps? I have the Apps, and tried to listen to Internet radio with my iPhone in the cradle and application running, but Cellular Data off. It won't work - meaning the Apps still need user's smartphone for Internet connectivity

I thought it was confirmed to be a vert only thing at this point, i.e. coupes, even if built as 2015 model year, will not have it. Maybe 2016 will.

Because streaming from your phone, you pay for the data, not BMW.

Data is cheap as long as I can stream to my BMW.

Does anyone know if the Canadian F23s will get HU_NBT_EVO as well? No where on the Canadian website does it say that we get the OTA Map updates. I have a feeling we're going to get the short end of the stick.

You can un-confirm it as of today.

Just picked up my 2015 M235xi coupe (4/7/15 build date) and it is showing 4G on the Connected Drive display.

Other items: Extended Bluetooth is reading / displaying text messages from my Samsung 4G mini on the iDrive display, holding the voice button down for 3 seconds triggers the S-Voice function, and it will link three phones with 2 active at any time.

Looks like the cut line is a production date somewhere between late November 2014 and early April 2015.

My M235i coupe, prod date March 30th, has EVO but when connected displays 3G, as well. Don't you think the LTE level displayed applies to the current connection protocol only, and - as such - whether it says 3G or 4G - may also depend on the local LTE capabilities in the exact location the car is in?
