I have read the threads about downloading the torrents and generating the code, but just not comfortable doing that stuff.

The dealership did give me a pretty good deal on the car, and gave me a nice bag full of about $100 worth of BMW goodies - hat, mug, key chain, cleaning products, etc. So who knows, maybe they'll give me a free update too.

If not, then I may just bite the bullet, cross my fingers, and get the maps online like everyone else.
doesn't hurt to try, maybe they'll give it to you free

Well, I got an answer today from my CA. OTA updates were only available for the 2015 Convertible, not the coupe. Maps can be updated through a dealer for approximately $375, plus 1 hour of labor at $155, plus tax.

And I thought maybe they'd throw me a bone...

That response really hit home. Over $500 to update maps?! Is it just me, or does anyone else think that's outrageous?

Love the car, but man, they'll just squeeze every last cent out of you. This deal with the map updates has really soured me on the brand. It's not just the maps though. BMW nickels and dimes you for everything. Things like paying $900 for the rear camera - my sister bought a $17,000 Toyota Corolla that came with a rear camera standard!

I can almost say with certainty that I will not keep this car past the warranty period, just because I don't want to give them any more money. Sorry for the rant.

Mine has been downloading a map update for a couple of days now. Went to 99% while I was driving yesterday, then restarted from 0%. Made it up to around 15% over the next hour. This morning, it started around 25% when I left my house, and made it to around 45% over the next 40 minutes as I drove to work.

Don't know if it's the base map, a regional update, or both. We'll see what's there when it manages to successfully complete.

If the OTA updates are anything like the USB ones, the progress meter starts over at 0% each time but it I think it resumes from wherever it stopped copying before.

At least that's the way it seems to me. I usually do my updates on the drive to or from work, which is about a 20 minute trip. The update gets to 70-80% in this time. I leave the drive plugged in, and the next time I drive the car it starts at 0% but only takes 5-10 minutes to finish.

No, it's definitely not resetting at each startup. It's carrying the last number (plus some amount) when it restarts after each cold cycle.

It went from 80% to 99% during the day Sunday, then went to from 99% back down to 0% while I was still driving and has been slowly counting back up for the last 2 days. Was at 15% when I parked the car Sunday, ran 25% - 45% yesterday on the way to work, forgot to look last night, and ran 80% - 89% by the time I got to work this morning.

Could be there's multiple components it's downloading. We'll see what happens tonight.

The download finally finished and the system ran the update on my drive home from work this evening.

The base map remains at 2015-2. The NE regional map updated to 2016-1.

My car is produced a day after Zooks (May 2015). Coupe not Vert. I get OTA map updates based on the region selection every quarter or so. I have never seen a 4g LTE connection. Always in 3G. Weird.

My last map update took 3 days to complete. I only see 3G and I live in a 4G LTE area...

My April 2015 build 228 xdrive ( with dual color cimate display) auto updates maps as well (display indicates 3G, even though LTE prevalent in area).

My maps are 2016-2 and cost nothing to update, but would be nice to OTA.

I was going through coding files and came across SWUP_SOURCE_DEVICE (Comment = SWUP over the air enabled). I wonder if OTA update could just be coded.
