Shocks recommendation?

When the 60K service was done I was told one of the rear shocks was leaking, not badly but it should be replaced at some point. The ol' girl is now just a highway cruiser and occassional back road terrorist. I don't really need anything performace-oriented anymore. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Or better do all 4 for the right balance as shock valves do wear over time even if they do not leak.

Stock Sachs shocks are awesome (check online retailers for good pricing). Alternatively, you can go with bilstein B4 (similar to stock) or B6 (a bit stiffer).

Shop owner (non-dealer, BMW specialty place that's been trustworthy in the past) says this car requires OEM . They are crazy hard to come by but he should have some in a week or so.

You got me interested
Any insights or reasoning on why this car "requires"?
