I’m so in love with my car

Hey guys,

New owner of a ‘19 M240i BM over CR here! I just wanted to share (gush) about my own personal thoughts about the car as I know a lot of you feel the same way. First of all, this car is so perfect (to me) in every way - the size, power, looks. It handles like a dream, seriously, this car will probably ruin a lot of other cars for me. I’ve never driven anything remotely as exciting as this car before and I feel extremely lucky to have this amazing car at a young age. I find myself wanting to drive it all the time, finding excuses/reasons to take it out. Taking the long way home, as cheesy as it sounds. And the power and the engine just keeps giving especially in the midrange. It’s breathtaking. Have to be a little cautious driving this little beast I don’t regret it at all for not test driving the other competition such as the mustang/Camaro, s3, etc and more so couldn’t imagine myself driving or owning any other car. I think it’s the honeymoon phase speaking but I just love this car so damn much. Thanks all for listening!

Yes, be a smart driver.
Some days when it seems perfect to get in the car and play - just obey ever law and be extra careful. I’m not saying don’t explore the car but be smart.

No, not just the honeymoon phase. The longer you own it, the **more** you'll love it. Guaranteed – this is just the beginning of a beautiful romance.

I hear ya. Just got mine 3 weeks back. 240i with x-drive and summer tires. So with 900 miles, here's my take, no issues. Car definitely holds the road and will turn sickly. Power, well, it would have been nice if BMW made this inline six cylinder 4.0 liters in displacement rather than 3. The tracking of the car is a bit weird, compared to the 2010 Audi S5 that I turned it in for. The BMW steering is very precise but not as good for holding the exact obsessive complusive center of a lane on the freeway as my older Audi. The Audi was just planted, and arguably or pointedly a heavy car, but that sucker tracked so straight. This one, perhaps more user error and getting to know it. It is a car, with the steering and precision, that I just I need to learn.
End of day, don't enter any straight line speed contests. This car is shines in the turns.

Completely know the feeling! The bond grows over time. I miss mine while it's in winter storage and not close to me. Looking forward to Spring!

Just got our 2019 M240i xDrive ten days ago and we're breaking it in as recommended for the first 1000 miles, so we haven't gotten the revs higher than around 4,500 (by accident!) and trying to stay under 4,000 RPM until it's broken in. Love the way it drives and handles.

We sold a 2015 Mustang GT and really only miss the amount of torque at low revs on that car, but it was not a pleasant daily driver nor very accomplished as a handler or cruiser...it was really only great at straight line acceleration. The xDrive M240i actually will beat that Mustang in a 0-60 contest but probably not the quarter mile, so in typical daily driving the M240i is actually more accomplished, more well-rounded, and more fun.

Congrats!

I don't want to rain on any parade or make assumptions about anyone and their family, but please remember it is JUST A CAR. It can be and probably will be replaced at some time.
I think we a all know that the non-BMW driver thinks we are all rich A-holes, pompous, and probably not very nice people.
It is JUST A CAR.

Back in 1994 I was in the Army and had just that day brought home a nice beautiful blue Crown Victoria and parked it in the garage. Later that evening we had to go looking our 5 year old little boy. When we found him hiding near the house he started crying and told us he had crashed his bike into the side of the new car.
He took me to it and showed it to me and was terrified. It was about a four inch scratch through all the paint and primer...it was not going to "rub out".
I picked him up and said "IT IS JUST A CAR". He was visible relieved and cried for a while. I bought some touch up paint at the dealer and we drove that car five years with that scratch on it.

Come forward 25 years....my son is an Afghanistan war vet and a third-shift police officer in a small South-Central Kansas town. On 28th December 2017 he became the 160th and final Police Suicide of 2017. (https://bluehelp.org/)

As I lay awake at night going over every interaction I ever had with my boy, I remember that incident with the Crown Vic. It is just a car.

wichitagreg - I too am sorry about your son. Police/Vet is a tough combination.

I have a large garage full of cars, one is a 911. A woman friend texted me saying I bet you love your Porsche. I responded saying its a car, I can only like it, love is for people. I will say I really, really like my M235. I've had it for 5 months and it continues to grow on me.

holy crap... I'm so sorry. One of the duties I did in the Army was an ACE suicide prevention instructor. I think I may have helped a few soldiers, and of that I'm proud. I truly wish that someone had been able to help your son in time to prevent that. Whatever you do, don't blame yourself; it's obvious you love him very much. You are so right... all cars are "just a car". We can't get our family members, friends or military buddies back. No amount of tears will bring them back. Believe me, I've tried and I'm crying now. Best of luck to you and God bless.

Why would you want it to be 4 liters? The car does exceptionally well with 3 liters, and the reality is, a 175 inch car simply can't accommodate that kind of displacement in an inline configuration; the car would have to be half a foot longer from the windshield to bumper in order to house 4 liters. And for what, bragging rights on displacement?

Mine is a 17 with 9500 miles, bought new. I still smile every time i hit the start button. A word of caution. The 240 can get you in trouble very fast with the cops, been lucky so far!

You're in a wonderful region for driving. I was in Highlands a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the roads in the area. It wasn't crowded so even though it was summer there was room to stretch out and use the car a bit.

There's an easy solution for that problem: take it to Road Atlanta, a track the 2 series was practically made for. There you can work the car and yourself in ways that you'll never be able to on the street or on the highway.

OP; best of luck. I believe most on the forum would concur with your enthusiastic response to your car!

drader, good point.

I was pondering this today while driving to breakfast along the back roads near my home. It occurred to me that the M235/M240 is quite frankly, so easy to drive at double the posted speed limit on most back roads (some with slightly more effort than others), it is virtually impossible to go "the speed limit". Modern cars, in general, are so much better at road-holding and acceleration; however road conditions, deer, pedestrians, etc. are still at the same pace / concentration in many cases. When cars are very easy to drive fast, it is important to remember to be a disciplined driver...
