Lol most of these complaints in the last couple of pages especially have been about modern cars in general, not that specific to the 2er. Auto adaptive lights and cruise control.. Really?

Ever tried Chemical Guys Wheel Guard Max Wax? That followed by Armor All Wheel Protectant makes keeping wheels looking good pretty easy.
I have not. I'll give it a look-see. Thanks

And Iron-X to quickly and easily remove the built up brake dust. Better living through chemicals.

This is a huge peeve of mine. Everything about the infotainment system in my 2er is better than my Honda EXCEPT for this function. The button on the steering wheel on my Honda will go to either the next alphabetical track, the next track on the album or the next random track depending on what mode it's in. I wish BMW could have figured that out!

I believe you can scroll (up or down on the scroll wheel on the right of the steering wheel) and you can scroll up to the top button for previous or scroll down for next.

Some people don't like scroll wheels. They are apparently too scrolly. Beats me, butch!

Yes, the wheel allows you to scroll; I understand that. What USA-RET and I are complaining about is that no matter what mode of playback you are in, the wheel only goes in alphabetical order. In other words, if you have it set on random playback, it won't go to the next random track but to to the next track alphabetically in the playlist. Likewise if you are playing an album. If you are on track 4, it will scroll to the next track alphabetically on the album, not track 5 (unless track 5 happens to be the next track in alphabetical order). I have to use the center console to select the previous and next buttons in I-drive to select the next random track or the next track on an album.

Can this be bypassed by assigning one of the 'memory' buttons to those 2 functions?
I haven't actually experienced this, as I only have a car on order, and I can imagine this could be annoying, especially as the entire point of shuffling a playlist is to minimize taking one's eyes off the road in hitting just one button, not searching for the track you want with a scroll wheel..

I would love to see that R&D money spent on much more valuable driver oriented features or even improving part/s reliability and not trying to idiot proof the car. I already have parking sensors, why not just make adaptive cruise control standard with that? My wife's $28,000 Passat has adaptive cruise control.

I've had a plethora of warranty issues, and while I understand that I'm somewhat alone in this and the 2'r is reported to be very reliable overall, I would rather see them fight to make cars that are much more trouble free, or at least come with features and technology that are a bit more groundbreaking. In 50K miles, I've had the A/C compressor, water pump, left tail light, radiator, and multiple sensors replaced. For about 6 months straight, I was afraid to take my new car on a road trip.

Again, I'm sure I'm somewhat alone in this, but I would rather not have to be on a first name basis with the loaner car desk than have automatic wipers and headlights.
Personally, I love automatic wipers in a number of common scenarios - the big one being when it is really only lightly raining, but you are on the highway. So most of the time, you only need occasional wipes, but if you come up beside a big truck you need them on high for a short while, but then back to only occasionally. The problem is that BMW doesn't implement them quite right - there is no way to have a fixed intermittent interval.

This is one of the very few things I like about Audis - the wiper lever has an "intermittent" position, and a separate interval control. When the auto wipers are enabled, the interval control is a sensitivity adjustment. When not in auto mode, they work the old fashioned way with the interval control directly controlling the fixed interval. Sometimes I want it to be truly automatic and variable, sometimes I want a fixed interval - light snow or heavy mist in particular seems to flummox auto wipers.

In hindsight, given I traded my M235i two years ago this week, the thing I hated about the car was that I just didn't love it. It was so stupidly fast and competent that it was kind of boring. On my Euro Delivery tour it was amazing doing it's thing on the Autobahn and Autostradas. But in the US, the power was just unusable. And as a small coupe, it was utterly impractical as anything but personal entertainment - and it just wasn't that entertaining. So once it became an only car instead of a fourth car for 3/4 of the year, it got traded for a GTI Sport. Which is actually more fun to drive, in that you have to work at it more, and is far more usable.

A GTI with roof rails and a trailer hitch is pretty much the Swiss Army knife of cars. You can take it on a track, you can take four adults out to dinner. Whatever won't fit in it will fit on it or can be towed behind it. It gets 35mpg without hypermiling it. And I only paid $23K for it, 1/2 what my deeply discounted M235i cost. Thank you Dieselgate! That said, if I could have bought a 1-series in the US, I would have.

I do miss that silky six and iDrive though. And the color - Estoril Blue is just beautiful. My GTI is boring white, because it lives in the FL sun and they didn't offer any decent colors.

I don't find the automatic function to be accurate enough. The right sensitivity setting varies with rain drop size and rain intensity. I find I have to adjust the sensitivity just about as often as I would adjust the delay on a system with manually adjustable delay. It's just added complexity for no real benefit.

Being nit picky really: 1) I hate the location of the trunk release inside the car. 2) Though I like the clean look of the fan speed adjuster I find difficult to use, especially at night. Wish they maybe embossed it somehow on either the lower side or higher side so you know what you are touching.3) I feel like the xeonon headlights aren't bright enough. I have adjusted the beams to go a little farther down the road but I still think they aren't bright enough in general.

+1 with your #2 comment, I miss the fan speed buttons of the E46 where the up button was logically placed above the down button. Hmmm, just a thought that came to me while writing this comment would be to attach or glue a very small raised dot on the “up” button so one can identify it just by feel. Will post a picture when/if I get around to doing it..

BMS clutch stop is $10 and a 2-minute install. Solves this problem.

What are you playing your music off of? I use Spotify mostly (through CarPlay) and the scroll wheel options are "next" and "previous". Spotify then interprets "next" and "previous" correctly depending on if I've set shuffle on or not.

We will have to agree to disagree. I find it VERY useful, and miss it on my GTI that doesn't have it. I very rarely adjust the sensitivity, though as mentioned, I do wish it had the flexibility to do auto OR fixed interval.

Not necessarily hate but:
- small gas tank
- styling... still getting used to it. Wish it was a little wider and lower.
- OEM wheels, not as aggressive as I’d like.
- low end torque is lacking and I’d have to really put the foot down to get it going. On the other hand, midrange is amazing! I wish my commute had more highway route so that I can really experience the beast :d
- A pillar is a bit on the big side, dangerous when turning sometimes.
- no HUD option

And that’s all... there’s just too much to love about it!

Just curious...compared to your M240i, which cars do you feel have sufficient low end torque...are you thinking big American V8s, 4-liter turbocharged Porsches, or other motors along those lines?
