I didn't realize things were so expensive in Connecticut.

Mine did the same thing; about 1 out every 50 start-ups. Embarrassing when other people were around. I noted it as a concern when I went to the dealer for an oil change; of course it did not do it as we stood there, and the dealer told me I would have to leave it overnight to see if they could duplicate it. I gave up and drove home. Hope it doesn't happen with my M2.

I really hate the fact that Spotify won't integrate fully unless you are using an iPhone. No love for the Android folks.

I didn't realize the price of updating the navigation maps was a regional thing. Do you know how much other dealers are charging?

And yes, CT is ranked in the Top 10 of most expensive states in various studies:

I thought map updates were free. Heck.

Ditto that - 500$would be robbery for the whole nav system, let alone new maps. Glad I skipped that, it was the main draw for that package, but I figured I could learn how to use a Garmin if I decided I wanted nav.

Mine did the same thing with the stock exhaust, I captured it on video with my iPhone and brought it in to the dealer and showed it to them. They replaced the rear exhaust section. Then, it happened again on my MPE and they replaced that also.

My main draw wasn't the nav, it was the better screen. The nav is pretty dank tho, but not worth $500 for updated maps. Roads don't change that much.

Its very easy to update maps via USB stick. I've updated mine to 2017, no issues

Costly mistakes for BMW. Interesting that they had to replace the whole exhaust rather than just fixing or replacing the valve. This is the way modern cars are going; replace entire sections when one small part fails.

Sure is embarrassing, of course that 1 out 50 chance of it happening was when I was showing my friends my new car

Are you sure you're not being fleeced? My 2017 M240i has given me a message saying that it has updated maps automatically over the air, and it was free.

http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/01/06/bm...vigation-maps/

Edit: Oh, looks like it's not free for 2015 models and earlier.

Sorta correct. Actually, the distinction is based on the switch to EVO head units from NBT units in early 2015. EVOs have 4G capability; NBT only goes to 3G. The higher bandwidth is what enables the over-the-air (OTA) downloads. The breakdown:

- All 2 Series convertibles get free OTA Nav map updates (These were the cars that first got EVO units, about four months before the others.)
- 2 Series coupes built March 2015 and after get free OTA Nav updates.

Everyone before that (including me ... my car was built the month before the switchover) is SOL.

Even more complicated: My April 2015 built M235 Coupe has the EVO unit and gets OTA updates (3x so far) but I have never seen 4G capability. Also, you need to choose a region to update and after a while that selection gets locked, i.e. you cannot change it. Hence, your OTA updates are limited to that region only.

With regard to the exhaust rattle, my MPE has done it on occasion on cold starts in the winter. The sound goes away once warm and/or the flap opens. Through some inspection, it's just a matter of the flap rattling a very tiny bit in it's bearing. I was able to quell the rattle with a few shots of lubricant on the bearing, inside and out. Haven't heard it since; 4 months and counting. I'd recommend just lubricating this part on occasion because the data really points to the issue coming back even after replacement, especially if you live somewhere where it gets cold.

As for navigation, the cost buy the nav option in addition to updating maps every three years seemed silly to me especially since I can use Google Drive and give voice nav commands and receive directions over the audio. Sure, the display isn't as sexy, but I saved thousands. You can also purchase the nicer display and code it in if you want as well.

There is a TSB for the exhaust valve rattle mine was replaced at the last oil change. I'm not sure if the valve is integrated into the exhaust on the MPE but it can be replaced separately on the stock exhaust.

The two modes have the same response at both endpoints of the stroke (foot off the throttle and floored).

The ASD does get louder. I have mine disabled, so I don't tend to think of that.
May I ask how did you disable ASD? My understanding is this can't be done pulling a fuse on the 2-series bc it will deactivate All audio. Thanks.

You can either code it out or install a wiring harness.

Start hear for coding:

or here for the harness:

That has been a bit of a weak point for BMW engines over the last decade, IMO. I went through 4 HPFPs in my '08 335xi, no issues in my '12 135i, and one FP in my '14 228i.

Hopefully the M240 will be like my 135 and have no issues.
