Little did I know I have purchased a plebeian carriage, a lowly base model 335i, suitable only for the unwashed masses. (sob)(tear rolls down cheek) I gotta go, I have to hide BMW's version of a Yugo under a tarp in the backyard so my neighbors won't have pity on me...
Since 1988 I've managed to own four BMWs, none of which have had an extra M badge somewhere on the body. I've somehow managed to keep my self esteem. Maybe ///M is now just a participation trophy?

It's a naturally aspirated, proper M car with a proper, M bespoke engine.

It's a boosted 435i with a body kit, and everyone has figured that out.

Yes, it eventually loses its big-end bearings...

It's not a real //M if you're not risking catastrophic engine failure every time you drive it!

all the m3's depreciate. Its not like the e9x series has gone up past msrp or anything.

The cleanest e92 zcp cars sell for the same as an average 2015 f80.
The lowest e92 (2008 non comp) are selling for about the same as a clean e46 zcp

its all relative. When the g80 comes out people will complain saying its awd/dct and not a real M car. and the whole process will start again.

Since when did an M3 suddenly become not special?

If you don't think your M3/4 is special. Go out and drive a 4 cylinder 3 series with a slushbox for a couple of weeks. Then get back in the M3/4. The difference is mindblowing.
It's special.

I love my F83. If I wanted the fastest thing out there, I wouldn't have bought a convertible, but I wanted a topless car with plenty of power, great styling, fun to drive and modern conveniences and a manual transmission. Not that many cars out there that can fill that need in my price range.

I measure the success of my choice in smiles per gallon. I don't care if there is a newer model (there will always be one), but I will customize it the way I want such as some carbon fiber bits, Ohlins, stereo and a few other bits and pieces.

Now get out there and drive and not worry if there is something more potent or flashier on the road.
