hydro dipping carbon fibre

anyone heard of the hydro dipping? here's a video example:

some of you may say the cf is fake and too much of a ricer but i actually quite like the gloss look! not a big fan of the oem matte cf, much prefer the gloss cf in m3/m4. getting a quote for interior trims tomorrow.

Hydro-dipping is very, very cool.. but it doesn't carry over the depth of real carbon fiber. The BMW-MP interior trim doesnt have it either, that's why I chose to get the aluminum hexagon trim which has awesome depth when you really look at it.

I'd hydro-dip almost any design onto something, but carbon fiber isn't one of them

I never heard of this before. But I liked how 2 out of 3 people in that video used gloves. The 2nd guy just went balls deep.

I don't think it's very caustic or dangerous... There are do-it-yourself kits available...

Hydrographics is a pretty common printing process for anything with an irregular shape. It's commonly used for things like camouflage patterns on outdoor equipment.

For parts that are too complex to vinyl wrap, it is a decent alternative. But again, your political stance on fake carbon prints will vary depending on your rice meter.

Hydrodipping is often used as coating for firearms, all though it is often considered inferior to other finishing like Cerakote. It coating isn't as tough as the latter, but it is often used for more complicated camo designs. Howa is a firearm company that uses this a lot for their bolt action rifles. Over time though, these firearms will have finish wear a lot sooner than Cerakote or Duracoat finishes.

For cars though, I think it would be good for a few years, but would see similar wear as typical car paints from rocks and other obstacles from the road.

Upon further inspection it does look cheap and doesn't have that real CF depth. We need to have a real CF for our interior trim. There is a guy online that that will take your OEM trim and cover it in CF and apply resin. I just don't know if I want to go without my trim for a bit. Check out ocarbon.com

There's an old Wheeler Dealer episode where they feature the process fairly prominently. Granted it was snakeskin on wheels for some ricer, but the process overview was very informative.

Hydrodip carbon fibre weave to replicate M3/M4 gloss. Not a fan of the raw carbon look in the M2

I had my engine cover done it looks more than good enough and the $250 was much more palatable than the $1k for the real one.

Ditto. This is one part I definitely wanna have dipped in CF. I already have the dry CF interior and CF mirrors.

Not as nice as real CF but at 1/5 the cost for something I see 5 mins per month at most definitely the smart play. Really happy w how it came out.

Actually, the range of films available for hydrographics dipping is enormous. Here's a hydro company local to me in the UK - go to the 'Gallery' link https://www.wickedcoatings.co.uk/

But probably the one pattern I wouldn't go for pn an interior trim is CF, given the other choices available. For me the pattern is too regular not to notice the difference against the real thing. My favourite is the granite rock coating on a set of wheels - take a look at the wheel colorizer at https://www.wickedcoatings.co.uk/cus...m-alloy-wheel/

Conversely, I thought the CF film on the wheels looked good - from a distance it has a nice texture, but doesn't look like it's trying to be something it isn't.

And a link to the available patterns: https://www.wickedcoatings.co.uk/cat...ery/by-design/

I went so far as to get a quote for my winter alloys: the price was reasonable. However, I was more attracted to coating the interior trim in something distinctive but never got 'round to it. I imagine that there are similar outfits in your region: might be worth doing a Google search for 'hydrographics dipping' just to see, if you're interested.
