Manual Transmission Shift Knob Help
Hi I've been looking for a new shifter for my car but cannot justify shelling out $230 for one. On my 1 series I had the m-performance shifter, which I loved, but when I picked up my m235i I saw that the shift knob and boot are one unit.
I would like to use my leather boot with the old-school m-performance shift knob. According to this website, it should fit my m235i. https://www.bimmerworld.com/BMW-Inte...CABEgImmfD_BwE Has anyone done this before? I've searched and seen that people just swap out the boot, but I do actually like the leather boot and would like to attach this knob to the leather boot I already have. Thanks!

I think its possible but not straight forward bolt on, some gluing required. I picked my performance boot/knob for $190 on ebay.
This video might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbaESGPfIK0 |

I'm running that knob with the stock boot.
Just gotta trim the nubs off that hold the boot to the stock knob, and then the replacement m performance knob(the older version you mentioned) just pops back onto the shifter in place of your OEM one. There's no real way to connect the replacement knob to the boot like the original one but it's not needed, the boot stays in place with no issues. |
