Auto Bild: M235i vs E46 M3 on track
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com They start off by discussing the pros and cons of old vs new tech. Turbo vs NA etc. Then the track... M235i is a significant 4 seconds quicker than the M3 around the track!!!! That is a huge advantage (as also commented by the Auto Bild crew) The E46 M3 is still the rawer and more entertaining car (according to one of them), but the guy "sponsoring" the M3 has to admit defeat in the end... EDIT: Here is a different video where the M235i is compared with a M3 CSL. They actually set identical lap times... Last edited by Boss330; 11-24-2014 at 12:19 PM.. |

I owned 3 E46 M3's and would agree with the statement above. There was nothing like reving the hell out of the E46 and it was a blast and had a much harder edge to it. The ride could beat the hell out of you compared to the M235, it was much stiffer. Really like comparing apples to oranges on the engines since the M235 kills it on torque so their totally different in their characteristics.

335is is faster than a E46M stock for stock from a standstill but I rather still have the E46
The B58 powered M240i will have 347 hp/500 nm tq - hopefully leicht The M2 376 hp / ~520/5ish tq - hopefully leicht The size of the M235i is great and fills the all around need for many. I wonder what new color will come with the new versions - that weird Sedona red? What about CSL? |

A while back I saw a test where a 135i (no ppk and stock run flat tires) was faster around a track than an E46 M3. I don't remember if the 135i was a pre 2011 with the progressive springs that caused a lot of body lean.
BMW is making progress, that is for sure. Just because the newer cars are faster that does not make the E46 M3 any less of a sweet car.
