As far as performance cars go, Porsche is pretty reliable compared to many assuming you steer clear of a few well-known issues. That said, if you want the true P-Car experience block 8 hours to go sit at the dealer to spec one out. Sooooo many choices to make. Do you want seats? How many seats? 14-way adjustable, 15-way adjustable, 16-way adjustable? Contrast stitching? OK please come this way we have 10 types of thread and 500 colors to choose from...

I had '07 Boxster S MT 6, traded for '09 911S cab MT6 (CPO), traded for '18 718S MT6, traded for 230x 'vert. Each trade served a particular purpose, the last one being AWD for winter & more comfort on long drives. P's hold value better than BMW allowing for no cash outlay after last trade & minimal for each before. The ONLY way to get into a 911 of any model year is CPO. Although P doesn't include maintenance their warranty can't be beat and dealer service was excellent. I looked at /test drove a '17 CPO 911S last Saturday but 14 way seats just weren't as comfy as the 230. I may look at a '21 911S MT7 cab in another year, unless the stock market has a phenomenal rally by Fall permitting ordering a new one. Power & handling of 911S is just amazing as long as it isn't all wheel drive. AWD 911 just feels numb.

I was in a similar position few months ago.
I have been faithfull to BMW for about 10 years and 4 models being the 2 my favourite no doubt, but 911 is may dream car. Was the happiest with my 235 and a friend of mine had a 2016 targa 4s dark gray / red with about 15k miles.I used to call him every 4-5 months trying to make sure that he would let me know when he was about to get rid of it (he has no money problems whatsoever) but every single time he told me he was never going to sell it. Then I heard somewhere else that he SOLD the car so I called him to confirm and ... yes he had allready sold it and apologized of course. He let me know he went to the dealer and configured a Cayenne Coupe Turbo AAAAND a Taycan so he just left the car right at that moment. I eventualy sold my 15´ 235 (a friend came to buy it and I agreed because it was the right amount at the right time financially talking) and ended buying a SUZUKI SWIFT SPORT LOL. A couple of weeks after his negotiation with the dealer he confessed me that he recieved arround $80k for the car &//%&%&%&%&%&%&&!!!!!! It was definitely on my posibilities but..... no time for crying. I still wander arround online sales of 911s but I don´t think there is gonna be another chance like this. Maybe wait for the Tycan in 2-3 years??? .....everything happens for a reason

Even though the 14 way power seats were heated/ventilated they (in combination with sport suspension) were punishing on long rides. The car might have been better w/PASM, but it didn't have it.

PASM is a lot more forgiving than the X73 sport suspension. Night and day

It's worth noting that the typical used Porsche has remarkably low mileage – not like Ferraris, but still. Perhaps they're simply not long-distance tourers like some other cars are.

This is the same reason that I've stuck with BMWs, although it's more common that we generally need to plumb the aftermarket enjoy that aspect of our cars.

Cars aren't worth financial stress period. As a 911 owner I'm often conflicted about the money I spent. Thankfully I can afford it and have no stress for now. Hopefully my job is not impacted by the pandemic.
Suggest you keep the M240i for now but save like hell to get your 911 as these are keepers for life. The good news is the 991 generation is proving to be pretty reliable overall. I hear used prices on 991.2's in particular will be coming down. I'd have no issues buying a well maintained, higher mileage one that has been gremlin free. There was a 991 Turbo with well over 200k miles posted on there a while back. Phenomenal. Your down payment will grow while the cars will become more affordable and you can acquire with lower monthly outlay. Hell, if you're like me maybe you can even have both by then Patience + discipline and your dream 911 will come. P.S. I'm jealous of your B58 and am actually saving to do the opposite; add a B58 (but a 340xi 6 speed) to my stable See how the grass is greener sometimes! |

Drive the P car you're interested in and see how it compares. I've had 3 older 911s (2 993s and a 996) and the 993s had the best steering feel of any car I've owned. Newer 911s still retain a fair amount of that feedback (but I havent driven a 992 yet).
Def see another 911/boxster in my future but for now; I'm just hoping to get out and drive the M240 more! remember, never too many cars, only too little time

There have been numerous threads here comparing the two cars. Surprisingly there is a lot of cross shopping between the two.
I have first hand experience. Went from a 228i to a 991.2 911. Let me give you a metaphorical impression: having the 911 is like having a supermodel girlfriend. Everybody will look at you with envy. You will be the most popular kid in town. Sex is great. Everything is great until she starts shopping with your credit card. She only likes high end stuff. Tires come in weird sizes that somehow end up costing 2x the price of the others. Dealership will charge you $400 for an oil change. Sure you can do it yourself but you need to buy the special tools and the device to reset the counter. I had a simple fuel pressure sensor replaced under warranty, it cost me $0, but I saw what the dealership charged Porsche NA and it was close to $3000. It's going to be an expensive ride in the long run so be prepared for that. |

A couple of years ago, I dropped my car off at our friendly local body shop to have a few dings taken care of. They were working on a late-model Rolls-Royce that had been in a serious fender bender. The right-front fender had to be replaced. Cost of the OEM part: $20,000.

if you have to worry about making the payments every month. Regardless of what car it is, my advice to you would be to get something that is within your financial means. Maybe that means looking for something older? Or buying out and keeping the current m240 for a few more years
