misfire and now car won't start

hello all,

new to this forum
car is 2014 bmw 220i
yesterday I was driving and all sudden I had lost of power quite significantly, so I plugged in I Carly and shows cylinder 1 misfire, injection shut off
went into garage and they changed spark plugs and swapped coils with cylinder 2 and the problem didn't jump so they said I need new injector

so they said I can drive back home but I barely made it home, this morning tried to start it but no luck, it cranks over but doesn't turn over.

just wondering if anyone might know what causes the car not fire up, it could be that injector is out that its not enough fuel pressure to start the car

you should re-post this in the engine section - this subforum is just for people in NY area. I think you have the N20, so this would be best subforum: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=531

These cars are pretty 'smart' and will shut off for self-protection due to many different reasons; most likely this is what is happening to you (can't say if it is low fuel pressure specifically, but most likely it can tell that the injector is bunk and won't let you start that way). It can be annoying, but ultimately much better than letting things go on until there is mechanical damage; sounds like tow truck time.

Thanks for reply mate,

So these cars know that something wrong like wrong injector and it will shut it off, one it’s been replaced how do I tell the computer that it’s new injector so it can let go?

The engine light was flashing when I had foot on gas when I didn’t it stayed on
The garage swapped injector and started the car but they didnt re program the injector yet would that prevent it from starting?

If that won’t work, what could potentially be next to be changed?
Codes are 140101 cylinder 1 injection is turned off

Could be mechanical problem (valve, ring, etc). Did they do compression test on #1?

So the garage said they replaced coil plugs and injector on cylinder 1 and now it says cylinder 4,

The car runs on and runs but it’s rough and you need to have foot on the gas to keep it alive as soon as you let go it will cut off. So they referred me to bmw specialist which I’ve been last night to talk to them.

I’m hoping its lpfp or it might be jumped timing belt?

What do people think?

Ask a mod to move this to the engine forum. Right now you're in the new york city forum so not many people seeing it.

Hi update,

Cylinder 1 doesn’t have compression so they will be taking head off and hopefully they will find valve damaged as I don’t want it to be a piston

Well thats not good news. Was car being beaten on at time of failure?

Is compression LOW or ZERO? Any knocking when it went?

They finally took the head off and it was broken piston ring think it’s due to the tune running too much power. Lucky enough the metal particles didn’t damage the side walls Replace all 4 and timing chain is 3.2k lol basically engine rebuild

I’ll add photo of the piston Name: 74624F91-D5D3-4D72-9AD4-B6EE32BB78E9.jpg

Not make sense, my piston crack before but it won't prevent start up. Just power loss
