Comfort Access Problem

The comfort access on my 2018 230i seems kind of wonky. Sometimes I a able to lock and unlock the doors just by touching the handle like it is intended to operate. Other times, I can make it work by pulling the key out of my pocket. Other times, it just won't work at all. What's really strange is I can hear the fuel door unlocking when I touch the door handle, but the doors don't unlock. Sometimes the mirror fold in when the doors lock and other times they don't. It seems that it behaves the same regardless of the key used.

Has anyone seen similar behavior?

The title of the thread made me laugh (and think impure thoughts). As it turns out, however, I have the same problem (comfort access). I press harder then harder some more, which doesn't help. It's like speaking louder to someone who doesn't understand English.

I usually just treat the neighbors to a tapestry of foul words and get my keys out.

Ours works like a charm. Haven't had any problem yet.

I've never had an issue getting into my car in 4+ years.

Except for days when the window won't go down because of icing, but that's a different issue entirely.

Does changing the battery in the fob help?

I've not had anything close to your experience. But, I do not grab the handle. I just place a fingertip on the ridged area on the top surface at the rear of the handle for locking and unlocking. That has worked consistently since new for both my 2 and 3 Series.

First thing, always, is to swap in a new battery.

My CA will occasionally fail to see the fob when it's in my man purse. Once or twice the car unlocked but wouldn't start.

Since then, I started carrying the fob on the outside of the bag, and it's much happier. I guess it doesn't transmit well through the leather. I usually don't have this problem with BMWs.

Mine is wonky also. I never realized I could lock my 2017 buy touching the door handle after exiting the car. I usually pressed the lock button o my fob to lock the car. Now I find I have to wait a few seconds before I hear the locks engage. Often-times I hear something that is not locking. when I touch the handle. A PITA IMO.

Yeah, so now I rely on pressing the lock function on the remote rather than trying to figure out whether my car is locking or not.

My 2019 Mini has a black button on the door handle that lets me press it when exiting the vehicle. I hear the locks engage and the door is locked. No so with the 2017 BMW 240I

My wife seems to have problems at times it not respond to her touch (ok no impure thoughts here ) but when I touch the handle, it works. Could be a slight coating of hand lotion on her hands?

Huh. I have the exact opposite problem with my minivan. Works for my wife (and everyone else who tries it), but not me. I have to grab the sliding door to unlock the car, then I can open the drivers door. And unlike my wife, I don't use hand lotion.

Never had a problem with my car or my wife's 230 though. Maybe it's a sign I shouldn't be driving a minivan?

my fobs act weird when the battery is low (and before the car says they're low). need to press twice, comfort access sporadic, etc. Change the batteries.

When I did my pick up at the performance center the delivery guy made a big point of showing us that if your finger is not exactly on the 3 little ridges when locking by touching the Handel it will not work.

In particular if your finger is touching the “fixed” part of the Handel at all, even a little it will not work.

I replaced the battery today. It maybe works slightly better but is still funky. Oddly, the first time I locked it, the mirrors folded as they should, but this only happened once. What it really strange to me is that when I touch the handle, I can hear the fuel door solenoid actuate every time. Also, the trunk will open every time I try with the car locked.
