I totally agree with your review. I just traded in my 2017 2 series cabrio for a 2020 2 series cabrio. The car does everything right and I feel confident driving it. I too got a 230i version. I didn’t feel the need or have a need for the bigger engine. Also the 240i came with low profile tires that don’t agree with me. The pot holes in New York are not very friendly to low profile rubber. Enjoy your ride.

I went from a Integra - another small coupe with a lot of versatility - accidentally to a 330Ci ZHP. When the Integra snapped a piston rod and I needed to replace, I went to the Acura dealer to find out that they didn't make a coupe anymore but rather 5 different versions of the same bland ugly sedan. They had the ZHP sitting there and I took it on a test drive and was blown away. They gave me a great deal, probably because the then 4 year old BMW made the current crop of Acuras look so bad. When the 330 got over 100K miles (and many expensive repairs) I did start looking for a replacement, but it wasn't until the 1 morphed into the 2 (and after the LCI refresh) that I finally found something I liked as much as the E46 3. They are actually almost identical in every dimension. Last edited by MarkDemma; 04-16-2020 at 09:15 AM.. |

Professional level video presentation. I enjoyed it. I agree with everything you presented on your video. The 2 series is a great vehicle. I love the compact size, considering the fact cars just keep getting bigger and bigger.... I love mine.
Quit your day job. Well done! Cheers/B

The people in charge go by different names. I heard a person very high up in the BMWCCA who was looking to add another race car to his stable refer to his superior as the Minister of Finance. He had a very sick look on his face as he said it, too – poor guy, I felt sorry for him.
Mind you, not everyone has this sort of superior; however, it's something to watch out for as they can creep up on you just when you least expect them to.

I just crested 50,000 miles on my 2017. Tuned on JB4 since 1200 miles, BM3 since 35,000 miles. Not a single issue. Best car I've ever owned at 47.

Great video OP. Completely agree. My progression has been from a rather plain 228i to a slighted performance customized 228i, and now an OG M2. From a family of four trip around Lake Michigan to hauling a 55" flat-screen TV, to now having the best set of hips short of a 911 this is a home run vehicle for BMW. Keep up the effort, I've subscribed.

What if I said...
price was not an object unless I exceeded $75K I can not think of a better car to own and I even owned a beautiful E46 330CI. Fully spec'd, cosmetically touched and even tuned, with a total cost of under $49K, this is an exceptional car. I wanted something perfectly balanced where I could take on the Pacific Coast Highway and an occasional track day. This is the perfect car.
See my post re: the latest thread, is it a F-something or G-something 1 or 2 series. Yes, I smile every time I walk out to my car. Last edited by Winemaker2; 04-27-2020 at 04:31 PM.. |

Oh gosh, where to start and not bore you...
The M240i snuck up on me during my 8 month search to replace a mistake. I think I am one of the club members that enjoys the small, tighter cars. I was lucky enough to have a couple Mustang GT's and a 2002 330Ci in my early twenties. Then I owned an 04' Mustang Mach One that was a really underrated, comfortable, daily hooligan machine. Next comes the baby and a ten year hiatus from fun cars... A couple of years ago I bought a Ford Focus ST. It was a fantastic daily driver, but alas, I could never get my wife to appreciate it, let alone work the manual without issues. Traded it in and bought a "dad" sedan that I regretted pretty quickly into the first months of ownership. My wife knew it, she could see it in my demeanor when driving around together. Fast forward through 8 months of research and a couple pairs of Canadian reviewers on YouTube, I absolutely adore my 2017 M240i Xdrive. Its a swiss army knife of a car. I finally can see owning one car for more than three years (has only happened once and I'm 41). I really enjoy the ownership perspectives on this forum. Thank you for sharing the video.

I couldn't agree more with this excellent video.
I've had my 2014 228i M Sport 6MT since new. It has low miles - just over 25K - and remains as fast, tight, and fun to drive as it was six years ago. It really is the heir to the 2002 in so many ways. I'm sure I will buy another BMW at some point, but I am never going to sell this one. |

Great video!
I’m a little late to the party here, but I just want to say thank you for such a well presented video on the 2 series! I found your reasoning very relatable and I look forward to following the evolution of your experience with it on and off the track in the future. — Have you been able to stretch its legs at all during these crazy times?

Yes, I've taken it out for one track day late in the season and learned it will be a great platform but that I have some mental healing to do from a previous track experience. Details in the episode here:

I'm in and out of owing cars way too frequently, but I enjoy variety and figure I'm something like an adult (chronologically) so it my business )with permission my pair-bonded reproductive companion).
I have standing permission to change cars, including a C7 or perhaps the forthcoming 400Z and I have zero inclination to change. And while I quite like and can afford an M2, 3, or 4, I just don't want to have that much money wrapped up in a vehicle. Running through a long list of possibilities in my mind, there is nothing that really approximates the smiles per dollar I get from my M240i and I haven't even tuned it. And one thing noted above that I agree with is that it's size is great. Living in the urban environment, it's highly nimble and getting out on a twisty road outside of time it's so highly maneuverable. Lateral g is a useful metric, but the actual feel of going from full-left to full right is something not well captured in such a simple metric. Get your car on the Tail of The Dragon or the Blueridge Parkway and you'll have a much deeper appreciation for this car. There is, for me and after careful consideration, nothing close to the M240i. It is not perfect for everyone and others could come to very different and very rational conclusions based on their needs, but I FINALLY bought the right car. |

LOL I’ve had my M240 for 9 months and only just found out the rear seats fold down thanks to your video. There are no latches in the main cabin and those latches in the trunk are tucked up high enough I never saw them. I just assumed it didn’t have them!

I could drive it tamely and wildly. It is a weekender and a daily drive. I could drive it to work without feeling self conscious people would think I am rich and at the same time it shows I am not shabby. It is just a car that could be whatever I want it to be. I am going to keep it for a long time.

It really is a fantastic car. On year 3 and still loving it.
Surprisingly practical and fun. Was really wanting a C8 in a few years (after they work the bugs out) but I'm struggling with the overall usability of 2 being so much better. The 2 having a big trunk, back seat, and not so low to the ground. Honestly I don't know if I could trust myself with the power the C8 has anyway. |
