2021 M240i - enable mirror compass?

Hey Guys - does the m240i still have a compass in the rear view? Does it need to be enabled? I see a hole under the mirror, but if I put a paperclip into it, it just keeps going in (ie not feeling a button). I vaguely recall having to enable the compass in my '15 228i, but i'm forgetting how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I'm afraid I can't really help, but I'm more than willing to offer useless input!

Specifically, my '17 M240i has an interior rear view mirror that tells me in which intercardinal direction the car is presently headed. In this day and age, that's functionally useless to me, but I'll admit to looking at it occasionally.

In that context, what I've found interesting is that my grandfather's cars always had ball compasses that showed his cars' cardinal direction. Once automotive travel became common in the 1920s, that information was important in the rural West. That's where he lived and traveled, and the roads weren't always well-marked nor maintained. Compared to today, and in all ways, drivers were very much on their own in those days.

My mirror has a compass and the hole definitely has a button inside so if yours doesn't then you may not have that option.

there is a pin hole on the right side looking from the bottom up... you can insert a clip and it should turn it on

Thanks for the inputs. My car is basically loaded so if it is an option, I should have it. I'll try the pinhole again tomorrow. Maybe I have to get at it from a certain angle? If it's available anymore, I just need confirmation more than anything.

If this is a new car, the dealer should handle such matters. Don't go sticking things in holes. AFAIK, the compass is standard, so if it is not working, that is a problem.
Newer BMWs tend to have the compass as an option on the central display. And no, in all my years of driving these cars, I have never had any use for the compass in the mirror but it has always been fun to watch. I miss it on our X3.

They apparently eliminated the compass in the rearview mirror, for the '21 model year:

It is a bit redundant when the navigation system, central display and/or HUD show it in BMWs, I'm assuming that's why they eliminated it.

Thanks! Yeah, the BMW Genius confirmed the same. I have no problem with the compass being eliminated - my sense of direction sucks anyway lol. I just remembered it not being enabled by default on my last car and the pinhole being there kinda threw me off.

I wonder why it's off by default. I'll have to check my car (2016) when I get home and see if it has it.

It may be on and I just never paid attention to it.

Not sure. It was off back when I got my '15 228i, so I just assumed the same on the new car.

Congrats on the new M240, mine should arrive from Germany this Friday. Did your car come with Power telescopic steering wheel instead of a manual one? I read online it's supposed to have that also does the door handle have a courtesy light when you unlock the car? This is my first beemer after 15 different Acura’s….yup made the jump the to German side.

I suspect that you read the general BMW manual. The current 2 series has a heated steering wheel, but it's manually tilting / telescoping. Also, I don't think there are puddle / courtesy lights on the doors. The key fob is mostly the same as the other 2 key fobs - just a blue outline instead of red. I suspect year's 2 series will have some / all of those things.

On my 21 build sheet it has this

3-spoke power telescopic, leather-wrapped, multi-function M sport steering wheel

I think all the M240 come Power telescopic now....but i may be wrong. I should be taking Delivery next week of mine
