Ah yes, another thread related to engine oil. My apologies in advance.

Anyway, I changed the oil in my car, a 2017 M240i, and only 5-5.5 liters drained out. I refilled it with 6.5 liters as per rated capacity. My oil sensor display in iDrive is now showing that my oil level is at max level.

At what point does the low level warning trigger? 1.5 liters missing seems like a lot to me. Also how accurate is the oil display? I never remember it reading anything less than max level.

It triggers at nominally 1 litre below max, based on all the other BMWs I have owned, but my current M240i has never needed a top up. The manual states to not add oil until it reaches minimum and the add oil message appears with the quantity to add shown. On the N54 & N55 engines it shows "+1 litre" when the add oil message comes up on Canadian cars.
