Depreciation rate for M235i?

In 2020, what do you guys predict the price would be for a used 2014-2015 M235i with ~40-50k miles (or less) and M-sport + Tech pkg?

My lease ends in 2020 and I would LOVE to get the M235i. I am in college currently so the newer models are out of question/out of budget.

No M-Sport on 235/40. Those bits are standard. To figure it out, look at depreciation curves for similar cars, maybe 435, and extrapolate.

Ah that’s what I was thinking because of the M in front of 235, sorry I am quite new to bmws. Could you help with finding the depreciation curves for a 335/435? I’m hoping a 235 will be around the 18-20k range for a decent one in 2020. Is that realistic or wishful thinking?

they are 30k now, so safe to say 18-24k range. Look at what 135's are now.

Just checked them out and the prices give me some hope! Maybe I’ll get lucky and find one for ~18k in good condition. Still 1 1/2 - 2 years away but just planning ahead. Any things I should be cautious about when looking at one that’s 5-6 yrs old and ~50-60k miles?

It was between this or the 335i but I’ve heard from many that the driving experience on the 235i > 335i. I’m sure it’s subjective though.

Coupes tend to hold their value better, the 228 will be in the low teens, and the M235 high teens low twenties for sure.

Cars.com has now 2014-5 235 coupes starting at $24K if you do a nationwide search. Another year will bring that down a few thousand but you will not find one without issues for under $20K.

Not in Florida. The ones going for that price have an accident. Most are 27+ or so. I know, I just bought one.

I think for one with no issues/accidents and average mileage go for ~26k currently. Low mileage F22 is out of my budget so I'm fine with a little higher mileage. I'm just hoping by 2020 they will be in the low-low 20s or high teens. I've looked at the 2012 135's current pricing and it shows around the $18-24k range like what bryan_f22 was saying.

Might try a WTB listing 6-12 months early, and try to find s/b who'd rather sell than turn it in as a lease. You might catch somebody who has some nice mods and wants to avoid having to take them all off; plus you might have an idea if they take good care of it (like, do they brag about how much boost they can cram into it on meth and how many sets of tires they go thru, or do they worry about whether they finally picked up a swirl mark on the paint at 15k miles).

I think the trick will be finding no issues/accidents + higher mileage. I just picked mine up recently, and the several I looked at in Houston, DFW, and in the LA area before this one were either all driven pretty hard (and/or obviously modified) or under-serviced leases. I was looking in the 35-50k miles. Was too scared to inspect the couple 70k mile, more budget friendly, options I found.

The simple lack of timely oil changes on performance-oriented cars is mind boggling to me.

Thanks for the insight! I'm assuming the 2014-2015 models will be around 50k-60k miles in 2020 if I'm lucky and most higher than that. I dont mind checking surrounding states for one as well so that might help. Worst case scenario I'll inspect the couple 70k mile ones like you said and hope theyre okay and serviced on time lol.

Sorry for the noob question, what is s/b? Funny you brought this idea up just now I found the cars for sale section in the forum! Will definitely try it out when I'm ready to buy, and I feel the sellers on here care more about their cars or are more knowledgable.

Considering that right now there is a clean looking '14 m235i with 55k miles in classifieds section being listed for $19,999 (although odd color combo)... My guess would be that two years from now you should have no problem scoring a clean example with reasonably low miles and the options that you want in the high teens.

Weird color combo indeed, but to each their own I guess. Aside from that, this gives me high hopes that I’ll be able to afford my own M235i in a little under 2 years!
