I don't understand why anyone would break their chargepipe. I have read that they may deteriorate and break over time on their own. Mine is not broken, but I did just order, and am about to have installed, the VRSF Chargepipe upgrade kit from Mike at Extreme Power House, along with the Active Autowerke Intercooler. Doing both at the same time saves a good bit of labor and the VRSF version should be much more durable.

I think the poll responses should also include the mileage and year of the car and power modifications.

Got the car used. Previous owner provided the paper work - charge pipe replaced at 24777 miles. Car was stock at the time in North Carolina. '15 M235i

Is this a problem on 228/M235 or also on 230/M240.

Well, it should not break within warranty period (at least) if the car is stock.

Still, it's a plastic part and dealing with fairly high pressure and temperature. It can break randomly.

I'm not saying it's acceptable. It's a bad engineering/manufacturing plus cost cutting.
Actually, if this poll shows some strong relationship with higher boost pressure from any mod, then it's good engineering. lol

Mind and my wife's X3 (with n55) are still fine at 13k miles and 60k miles.

I completely get that, and made reference to that concept, but take another look at the OP's question. Putting his grammar aside, he asked how many of us actually did the damage, not whether it broke on its own. Seemed quite odd.

My F30's broke while it was still under factory warranty. Florida heat dries that plastic out!

Never experienced a broken OEM pipe. But I did change it to VRSF before it could happen and leave me stranded somewhere..

This happens on any newer turbo car with plastic charge pipes. It also happens on big trucks, with metal pipes (the clamps fail). Nature of a boosted vehicle, do your DD and prepare for the inevitable.

Simple swap/installation or did you have to get under the car and remove a lot of stuff?

Not the 2 Series, but should give an idea....

...I'm letting the dealer do it along with the intercooler.

Did it break or not?

I don't care how or who or what did the damage. This is to simply see how many have broke, and how many have not.

And to point out my grammar, I guess you're one of those?

Yes, we high school grads are so annoying. Actually, I pointed out that I was overlooking your use of “broke” versus “broken.” But, your question revision is very clear and effective. “Did it break or not?”

To help prove your point, when I taught university in subjects other than English, I did grade for spelling and grammar. That annoyed several students, mostly those who weren’t proficient in either.

Yeah, my wife is in education with 3x masters. She tries everyday. I have my mba. I do well for myself, even without ppl trying to correct my grammar.

Point is, if i need "someone else" telling me how to speak or type, i'll let you know.

It's pretty much a problem with any turbo car with plastic charge pipes. Heat and time weaken them, it's not somthing that should be a problem on a newer car that isn't running extra boost. I wouldn't concern your self with it. Even if it does blow it will just go into limp mode so it's not going to leave you stranded or anything. It's not costly or hard to repair either.

I have access to a hoist, so it wasn't too bad. I don't think I'd want to do this on the floor, unless I had some help. The worst part was removing the factory pipe in one piece, it's long and contorted, lol. Then installing the lower half, getting it lined up and snapped onto the intercooler is a huge PITA, as there isn't much room. I am MT/RWD and I've heard people mention that the x-drive's are a bit tighter with respect to clearance on the left front corner of the chassis.
