Those are hard to come by as well. The ones I saw in my area are priced higher with more miles (which makes now sense, but let’s run with it)

Do like the new Camry though.

Exactly

If you get anything with an auto, the ZF in this car is fantastic.

Good luck, but I would stay away from this one.

Take it from somebody who has both sold modded vehicles and spent the better part of a year shopping around for my M240 (only just picked up tuesday)...I would stay away from that one as long as there are unknown variables

Happy hunting

I’ll see what autos are around. I would have modded it regardless, but I’m unsure about specifically the springs (thanks for the heads up) and JB tuner. Don’t like the idea of being catless on the car either!

I took me about 7 months to find an used car I was comfortable with it and still had some non-mechanical issues

I would run from that car especially been Turbo and the warranty voided!

There are tons of auto M235s out there as over 90% of them are autos. The 6mts generally fetch a bit more money because of their rarity and the smaller crowd that wants them but is willing to pay for it.

Tons based on what criteria? I literally flew out of my state just to find a manual M235i - the only other one was going for 5k more in my state.

I’ll see what the Autos are offering, but if this car comes down in price, I might as well. I’ll likely part it out and drive it stock

Maybe your budget is unrealistically low. Could that be why the one you found had so many red flags? :

My budget of 28-30k is unrealistically low? That’s news to me. There is literally a post here on the front page where people were claiming a m235i was low 20s. (Which is false and UNREALISTICALLY low)

There just aren’t any real manual options around, and that’s fine - but don’t try to call me stupid when I looked

I never said or suggested that you were stupid. Good luck.

Just my expectations were unrealistic. Maybe they are, I’ll up the price to 35k, but for a car that based around 44k, 10k depreciation in 3/4years is very good.

I'm not sure where you live in FL, but there are well over 30 RWD automatic M235s for sale in FL right now for under $30k. RWD automatic M235s are not hard to find at all. Hell, even within 500 miles of Kansas City there are 30 automatic RWD M235s for sale under $30k. There is a only ONE 6mt available within 500 miles. That alone is telling of the rarity of a 6mt M235.

None of us are calling you stupid, but you're searching for a pretty dang rare car. If you go with the auto, you'll find tons of them on Cars.com.

Try autotrader.com and cargurus.com as well. I just bought a 2017 M240i F23 automatic and had no trouble finding several examples that met all of my main criteria. And as someone else said, the automatic transmission in these is pretty impressive, especially when compared to a Camry! I have had numerous manual transmission BMWs and also a 2011 335is with DCT which was my absolutely favorite transmission in a BMW. The current steptronics are pretty darn close to that DCT. Good luck with your search.

I agree on the automatic ... and would have paid for a DCT had it been available for my M240i. There are days when I think a manual would be fun, and since I don't spend ages in traffic, it might be. It's all about what you like, of course.

As for a modded car ... I wouldn't, unless I knew a lot about it.

Red springs could also be H&Rs. As others said, the headlight level error is definitely from spring install -- either bent or broken level arm but relatively easy fix. Doing downpipes and tune on a turbo car is basically the norm these days, and anybody can easily put those on and take it back off prior to selling so I wouldn't think that's a deal breaker, although I'd do a thorough inspection. I'd more be worried about the damage reports in the carfax by 2nd and 3rd owner. It's also a bit weird that 2nd owner only had it for a brief period but damaged the car and put that many miles on it.

So do I on my 228ix, no big deal since they are covered under warranty.

The springs are H&R. The accident was apparently backing into something. There is a rear camera installed by the license plate (but no idea how it activates)

To the OP, even if they are mods you would add to the car, HOW they were added makes all the differences in the world. If it's a trade-in at a dealer, and they didn't even know it was modded, I would suspect they spent all of 2 minutes "inspecting" the car. Sounds like you've already passed on the car, but I would get it checked out at an independent mechanic if you were still interested in the car.

I had a 135i with a DCT, and honestly, I think if it was a "blind" test I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between that and the ZF8. ZF8 is probably smoother overall (DCT gets clunky when starting from no/low speeds) and the downshift "blip" is maybe a tad quicker on the DCT, but I was surprised at how close the ZF8 is to the DCT in operation.
