Waze coming to CarPlay

"Starting in iOS 12 later this year, Apple's CarPlay will no longer force you to use Apple Maps to get directions. Instead, you'll be able to use navigation from any third-party app, like Google Maps, Waze, or whatever your mapping app of choice is."

I got accepted into the Waze beta program and am just waiting for a testflight invite to come back to start testing. Will post updates once I've had a chance to try it out.

Nevertheless, I much prefer Google Maps to iOS Maps or Waze, so I'm very much looking forward to this, as well. I just need to make sure my phone is turned off when I go buy my chronic and visit my hussy ...

Yeah I'm gonna try it out. I never got my TestFlight invitation to test out the Beta haha. They basically use their entire user base as beta testers I think.

I mean, honestly the big reason to use Waze is for the crowdsourced speed trap warnings.

That's a good question. CarPlay is capable of supporting wider screen layouts. The Internet claims it's because BMW don't use a screen with high enough resolution.

And honestly, the big reason I don't use Waze is because I don't want fast-food or gas-station logos that I can't toggle off clogging up my map view. Life has too many of those damn things in my line of sight already.

If I want a Big Mac, I'll do a search for the Golden Arches. 99.999 percent of the time, I don't give a damn that there are five Mickey Ds within 10 miles of where I am.

Yes, here in the Bay Area where LOTS of people use it, it has VERY good data. We have all sorts of road closures, routes that become a nightmare if there is an accident and where I live the roads are literally changing from week to week. Having the up to the minute info can make a huge difference and no other app that I've seen has as good data. Like taking the 101 vs 280 vs 580 can mean the difference between a 30 minute drive and a 3 hour drive.

I'll put up with the dump pop up adverts for that. I have to say, so far I haven't seen any of them on the CarPlay screen, though.
