For current 2ers owners, how much interest in next generation?
Saw the Car & Driver piece about the next generation 2-series coupe. Just curious about how fellow owners are gearing up for the next version of the car.

No manual, no sale but nowadays, I'm sure I speak for a very minute consumer base..
I guess from here on out, the minimum model for a third pedal option would be the G87 M2. At least they're trying to keep it RWD coupe alive but I'm guessing that has more to do with cost-cutting than enthusiast demand, same as the M340i, which is only RWD in the North American market, as not everyone needs an AWD setup, for various reasons.. We'll see how it goes but from what I gather, the only thing the next gen standard 2 Series has going for itself is the fact that it will be the smallest in the bunch. Other than that, I just don't see the appeal anymore and honestly, with advent of the M235i Grand Coup and the M2, I have no idea which niche market this would exactly fit : |

I just paid off this car and I still love it. My last smallish BMW was a 325, which I kept for a dozen years and 160K miles, until it literally started falling apart. Given that I have only 43K miles on this one and given the overall quality of the build, it should last me at least as long, at which point I will be lucky to be able to get into it and drive.
So yes, I am interested, but not looking to purchase a personal vehicle for a while. |

I've already put my current 2 in the "keeper" category. I'd have to be compellingly attracted to something about the next one to start all over. The lack of a manual rules out most of the line-up, but if the new M2 has more suspension compliance for more than me to be willing to ride in it (guess who? LOL!), that might be possible...but the odds remain quite low.

I have a lot of interest in the new M240/5 and M2, but I don't currently own a 2 series.
There haven't been a lot of cars that I've had a serious interest in owning for quite a while (taking into consideration the financial aspect.) I want a coupe that is styled well that isn't huge or tiny, has AWD, and performs well. Are my requirements that difficult? I never had any interest in the 4 series F32 platform. In fact, I never liked the styling of the whole FX platform at all for that matter. S5? The B9's aren't bad. C43 AMG coupe? Possibility, but the back end of the coupe looks a little off to me. 4 series G22? I have concerns about the new front grille, but I'll wait until I can see it in the flesh. The one car I've had interest in is the F22. My dad owns an F23 M235i and I've had quite a bit of seat time in it and know I like it. If I had been in the market for a car a couple years ago I would have strongly considered the F22. Now I'm at the point where my 2008 e92 isn't exactly new anymore. By the time the new 2 comes out my e92 will be around 100k miles. So yeah, I have a lot of interest in the new 2!

No convertible option means I won't be looking at putting the new 2 Series in my garage. I'm probably looking at 718 Boxster S or M440 Vert. I may also go in a completely different direction and replace both my GMC Canyon and my M235i with a Jeep Gladiator if I can get my Porsche 912 restoration completed. At any rate, my 2er will remain my DD for at least another 4 years, so lots of time to ponder my future.

No convertible option. not for me.
When my lease is up in 21 I would get a M240 vert or a Z4. The 4 series is a boat. |

i'm planning for spring 2022...and my next purchase will be an M2.
i've already starting splitting miles between my E90 (only 40k miles) and F22 (already 80k miles!), so my son can inherit the 228i when he graduates college. i'll buy the M2 the month after i make his last tuition payment...around dec 2021. we'll have to see what the M2 market looks like before i decide. not sure the new M2 will even be out be then?

All I wanted was a small, athletic AWD convertible with a powerful, reliable platform. The M240i fills that niche like nothing else on the market.
I look at the proportions of the 4er and all I want to do is chop off the rear to make it smaller. The upcoming M440i will have the same issue as well; boat like luxo-'vert. Ugh. I wish they would make another small AWD convertible with their top of the line B58 (or better yet with their S58!). I feel like in the G-generation BMWs my only option would be the M4 convertible with AWD which will make up for the smallness with improved handling dynamics and an aggressive beaver-nosed aesthetic. Seems like a compromise. As I type the above, seems like my next car will not be a BMW but a Porsche. Seriously BMW? You make a stupid GC out of every model and yet you can't nail down a powerful convertible (the current Z4, along with M240i convertible, is getting axed) |

No next-gen 2-series cabrio, so I"m out.
As well, I can't see laying out CAD $85K+ for the upcoming 4er ragtop given the fugly front end grill layout. So, I'll hang onto the M240 ragtop (if possible).

Wife and I will likely keep the F87 M2 for a while. The next generation will likely be bigger and heavier (which the current gen is already quite heavy already) not to mention certain areas like steering feel, tech, handling, etc won't be major improvements or must haves, and styling will likely be ugly, so the current F87 is a keeper right now.
I'm doubtful I will like the next generation, but hope I am wrong.

My 2er is just getting broken in. I would need to be dazzled by a new generation BMW to even think about committing this early and so far nothing in the previews have done that. As of now, I believe I will fondly look back on our F2x series similar to how most of us did on the E46 series.

LOL! That's what my wife tells me about last Fall's acquisition of our '19 230i xDrive but can't say I disagree with her.
By the time we're due for a replacement vehicle, I suspect that'll be her Volvo V60 Cross Country...and by then, that might very well be all electric with the MINI Roadster and 230 being the fun vehicles for us.
