Electric Car Charging

Here's a thought, 'people don't like getting out of their cars'. They go to drive up windows for food, banking, pharmacies etc. So why do manufacturers think they want to get out to charge up? My vision is this;

I drive up to a charging station

My car communicates wirelessly and a flap opens in the grill

The station extends an arm with a plug hanging from it

Magnets connect it

My car authorizes a power transfer and a financial transaction

It disconnects when done or when I drive away

Same thing at my home so a neighbor can't rip me off at my curbside station

Gee whiz...I hope that never happens to me!

Seriously, once the wife's Mazda 3 gives up, I can imagine owning an electric vehicle as our around-town, local-driving transport module. But that's got to be at least a decade away, if only because the MZ3 is so much fun to drive.

Wireless electric car charging is already available, currently at least 22kW power rating: https://www.techradar.com/news/wirel...hicle-charging

Wireless is the way of the future but in the meantime folks like these guys are already working on rapid charging.

The ground based charging might look good under ideal conditions but add a little rain and snow and some wheelspin and snowplowing etc and it's not looking so good.

That robot arm demands precise car positioning. No, thru the grill is the way to go.
