Bootmod3 vs JB4 vs Dinantronics Elite V2
What's the best route for our cars? I'd like minimal dealer nagging. Dinan seems like the best route for safety with their matching warranty, but only a 35hp and 40tq gain and no customizability as I am aware of. Jb4 offers more performance than Dinan, and can be easily removed, but doesn't have as much customizability as bootmod3. But BM3 is a complete ecu flash that will surely be picked up by the dealer. Car is brand new 2020, and would prefer to have no warranty issues... but B58 seems pretty bulletproof as of now. All input is appreciated.

If you want no warranty issues do not tune the car at all.
If you get the dinan tune only dinan dealers will touch the car. If a warranty issue does present its self, you will be at the mercy of dinan and BMW to agree that the dinan tune caused the problem with your car. Most of the time this is not an issue, but people have been without their car for weeks while dinan/bmw argue over who is at fault. JB4 is detectable by the dealer and it can void your warranty if something breaks. BM3 is detectable by the dealer and it can void your warranty if something breaks. |

Might consider if they give me an M2 Competition loaner while they argue over the claim

Do you think even a catted downpipe would still make a big difference over stock?

downpipes do not add any stress on stock components. It actually reduces backpressure on your turbo. I highly doubt a dealer will deny your warranty based on having a downpipe

That's good to know. Maybe they meant for a catless DP?
Anyway as far is I remember about warranties, the dealer has to prove that the modified part caused the issue. |

Talking down pipes, I don't agree with the less stress idea. The mapping by BMW includes wastegate control which assumes a level of exhaust back pressure (which in its own right is controlling boost). A free flowing down pipe means that the wastegate will no longer be quick enough to catch boost spikes. Boost spikes can kill an engine = a legitimate engineers reason to void a warranty due to engine failure. Mapping companies that offer stage 2 tunes for catless DP (BM3, MHD,etc) will openly tell you they modified the WG control tables to avoid the added boost spikes. In reality, you probably won't have a problem with a DP as the engine will 'endure', but there certainly is a valid reason to void your warranty by the dealer/ country network. Whether they choose to is in their hands. |

Im pretty sure you can re-lock your DME and flash your stock tune with BM3. As long as you flash to stock and return your parts back to stock I don't think you will have any warranty issues.

All the others, while customizable and providing more power, any issues will be on you and you alone. If the car is out of warranty, then it makes no difference. However, there are instances where engines grenade, seize or otherwise malfunction during the first 4 years or covered miles. Car computer will show a tuner was on the car whether or not you remove it or not. BMW will refuse to fix. $20K for a new motor. You decide....... Here's a for instance: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1691343 Last edited by USA-RET; 02-04-2020 at 08:15 AM.. |

I see a lot of reference to seized, grenaded or otherwise malfunctioning engines in association with tuning. Outside the obvious standard disclaimer to protect the seller/tuner from this occurrence, I find very little validation of this, engine failures, online for the B58 engines.
Does the car DME show a piggyback controller was attached? I'm not talking about logged maximums, like boost or rpm, but a legit tracking mechanism like the write counter that records each write to the DME? I'm curious... Regards |

I am not sure in our case, but I know Mustang ECU's keep a record of how many times they were flashed or updated. Typically the dealer expects a couple of those since they do re-flash them almost every time you take your car in for service but if they see some excessive numbers it's pretty easy to guess why.
