M240i fuel economy
For those who have long highway commutes (30-50 miles) for work, what is the typical MPG you get and many miles do you get per tank? I was originally looking at an M2 or M3, but from what I've read, the best the M2 gets is ~200 miles or less per tank. Hoping the M240i does better. I'd like input for both manual and automatic.

I'm making around 435 whp; I drive it pretty damn hard most of the time and I average 22-23 mpg running E30 Stage 2/catless DP. When I was running a Stage 2 93 octane flash with catless DP, I was getting 23-24. This car is stupid good on gas when considering the performance.

I'm interested to see everyone else's response to this. I just picked up my M240i last Friday. In sport mode, I swear I think I can see the gas needle fall
I traveled out of town late this week and on the way home reset the trip odometer and drove it in Eco Pro. Of the 80 miles traveled, 12 were on surface roads and the rest were interstate (where I tried to maintain 75mph). I was pleasantly surprised by the 32mpg reported by the trip computer. I suspect that may be one of the best numbers I ever get, but only time will tell. In the next few weeks, I'm going to do some more informal tests to compare comfort and eco pro on my usual commute through heavy stop and go traffic and interstate. Edited to say it's an automatic. I really wanted a manual, but this car was nearly perfect in every other way so I grabbed it. I think if MPG is a concern you'll want the auto anyway. |

Good to see you are able to pull off 32.5. The highest I've hit in my BRZ is 36, which is immediately after I fill up and reset the mpg and then drive on the highway for 20 miles or so.
Auto vs manual I am struggling with. 5 days I week I battle stop and go traffic for a good 10-15 minutes each way to/from work so it would be nice to have an auto, especially in my morning commute while I have a hot cup of coffee. But then there's the times when there's no traffic or weekends where I really want to have the manual. I've been driving manual for all my life so I'm hesitant to switch. The best I’ve seen on our manual M240i is 6.9 l/100km (34 US mpg) when on cruise control at a constant 110 km/h (68mph) as measured when filling the car up, as the trip computer is generally too optimistic.

I’ve gotten 6.3l/100km (37 US MPG) driving 600km at 110-120 km/h per trip computer. M240 automatic. With a few stops and some mild acceleration along the way.
6-7 l/100km is totally doable on long highway trips as long as you: - drive at about or below 130 km/h and - imagine you have a 220d instead of a M240 For me personally it’s a bit of a bummer driving a car like this so slowly. So it’s only doable if you have passengers or are on a long trip like I was. I’ve also noticed it’s really efficient at 50-60 km/h - under 5l/100km !! Count me impressed what this engine can do |

I have had my car for a few months now. My commute is 28 miles and most of it is highway speeds. I generally get around 25 mpg per tank and it’s about 5 days to a week between fill ups.

Normal highway driving is always 30mpg or so for me. Higher if I'm zen. Lower if I'm frisky. So far my combined average for 10k miles has been just shy of 28mpg but I drive very conservatively 99% of the time.

Let me tell you, this auto has been amazing. It shifts faster than I could ever do while getting better MPG, what's not to love about that? Paddles are a novelty to me, put in Sport+ and have a blast.

I had my 240i manual for a couple months, running catless and stage 2 bm3 now, with a mix between highway and residential driving, with a good amount of pedal abuse, I average anywhere from 8-12 l/100km usually.

I think that solves my concern with MPG, looks like mpg in the 30's is attainable based on driving habits, and ratio of highway to city.
I wonder if the M2 is the same way. |

It is not. I know two people with M2s and neither has done better than 26mpg and that was nearly hypermiling. You'll see about 24mpg on the highway and about 20mpg average if you drive passively... which nobody would do in an M2 because that would be no fun at all.

I've found that for leisurely highway driving (especially when using cruise control) there's no real difference in fuel economy between Eco Pro and Comfort. It's if/when you need to jump on the accelerator that the differences between the two modes is obvious.

Man, that is some pretty impressive MPG (L/100km) as mine is on local roads and the system is reading 10.1L/100km (23.29 US MPG). Please note, I'm a 2016 M235i (N55) 6MT and filling octane 93. I currently have 38,xxx km on the ODO (approx 23,600 miles)
I had the option to get the M240i with the B58 but I didn't go for it at the time. My build was June of 2016 and was the last week for the M235i variant.

I really do not think 30 MPG is possible in the M240, at least not in my New England climate.
I have an 80 mile round trip commute that is 75 miles highway and 5 miles suburban. I do another 10% of suburban and occasional urban driving. Overall over 40K miles I got 23.7 mpg with my MT M240i driving fairly fast - 75 to 80 MPH on the highway. If I hypermile I can get as high as 29 doing the speed limit and using eco mode. IIRC I typically get around 350 miles per tank. |

The problem is the gearing with the 6 MT. With the 8 AT, I can get just about 30 mpg on long trips at the speed limit or just over (65-70 mph). Eco Pro helps, since it disengages the transmission when coasting, another feature that can't be duplicated with the manny.

I get low-to-mid 30s from my MT M240i on the highway. That's when driving at 68-72 MPH with just me in the car and with the tire pressures set to the manufacturer's specification. I get 28-30 MPG if I run the car at 75-80 MPH. At 6,350 mostly highway miles, I've averaged 30.7 overall since new. That was based upon the gallons reported by the pumps and the car's odometer reading.
