M235i on Alutec Drive 18x8 et43

Here's my 2016 M235i 6mt on Alutec Drive 18x8 et43 (square) on the factory 225/40r18 front and 245/35r18 rear MPSS tires. The rears are very flush and the fronts are just slightly within the wheel well. I test fitted and confirmed that the 245/35r18 with this wheel width and offset will work on the front and clears the front strut by about 8mm. 245s on the front look meaty and is definitely what I'll go with once the 225s wear out. The wheels weigh 22lbs each and are hubcentric to the car. I'm running OEM BMW center caps. Alutec is a German wheel company that Tirerack recently picked up.

UPDATE:

Photos show below are of the car on a square 245/35R18 Pilot 4S setup. Absolutely no rubbing and plenty of clearance between the tire and strut housing, splash covers, and 1-inch drop Dinan springs in the back (only) on 5MM lift spacers.

Thumbs up

Very Nice! I've got the lighter gray wheels on the M240i xDrive. They only look good when they're clean, and the brake dust quickly makes them look dull and non-descript. The channel behind the spokes make them a pain to clean. I'm old school, and have been looking at silver wheels, but with the brake dust, I'm hesitant to pursue a silver wheel. Does the black portion on your wheels do a better job of "hiding" the dust? How about the machined part? Again, nice alternative to all the VMR wheels so popular on this site.

The verdict is still out on how they'll look dirty. If they're anything like my wife's Outback with the same machined and gloss black finish, these wheels should look pretty good between washings and not remotely as bad as the OEM wheels which do dull quickly with dust. The Alutec wheels come with a 5 year finish warranty which is kind of unheard of. The paint and clear coat are very thick.

With that said, like most any wheel, they look far better in person. There's more depth aND concavity. They kind of look like a blocker M2/M3/M4 but have only maybe 50% of the concavity. I would have loved an 8.5" option for the rear rims so that I could run 255s, but the reduced offset does make the rear 245 tires (and fronts) appear visually wider. I'm just not a fan of adding such wide rims which are common on here with VMRs and such. It's excessive, IMO. This setup is quite conservative compared to what many are running.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'm assuming you ordered them from Tire Rack? Also, were you able to re-use the OEM TPMS sensors?

I ordered the wheels from Keith at the Tire Rack (see his contact information in the stickies of the wheel/tire forum). I ordered new TPMS sensors because I'm using the OEM rims for winter duty. You can run the OEM TPMS sensors if you want. The car has the capability to handle two different sets of TPMS sensors.

Looks great! It's good to hear the fronts clear nicely with the 245s; I hadn't gotten around to trying them up front yet. What did you end up doing to keep the center caps snug?

I had an extra set of metal rings from an set of Enkei center caps. I expanded the rings to fit the inside of the BMW cap. The ring helps provide some outward pressure to the cap tabs. I then used 3M tape on three of the center cap tabs. The caps are on there tight, BUT I do check them often

I love these wheels. They almost look like 19s due to how far the spokes are pulled to the rim edge and the wheel mass visually reduced with the gloss black paint. It's a somewhat elegant M2 type look.

Nice looks great. Wonder if they made em staggered. Oh well i just ordered the staggered set from OEM concept which look amazing too.

Tires look awesome nicely done! I'm looking around for some summer wheels and these might fit the bill. Just to confirm, the stock MPSS staggered tires fit nicely on these with a square setup correct?

Why pay money for something that looks oem off an m2?

Now time to fix that wheel gap!

Yes, the stock MPSS staggered setup fits perfectly fine and is what I'm currently running. The front 225/40R18s can mount on to a 9" wide rim per Michelin. On this 8" rim, there is a very fraction stretch, much like how the OEM tires look on the M2's 19" rims.

Because I like the M2 rims a lot I heavily considered the 18X8.5 OEM Concept M2/3/4 replicas, but I was not a fan of their offsets for the 2 series. The concavity of those rims is awesome, but even with the optional shaving of the wheel back pad, the replicas would still poke fractionally in the front and I'm not a fan of that. I'm also weary of replica wheels. The Alutecs carry all the euro and Japanese certifications for strength plus they've got an exceptionally strong finish and are made by the same company and in the same Polish factory as the OEM 2 series rims.

As for the drop, not going to happen on this car. Been there and done that with my prior Maxima, G35, and WRX. This is the first car where I felt the wheel gap was acceptable. I've spent so much money over the years on springs and shocks, including some very pricey Bilstein and Koni stuff, and there are just too many compromises. With the improved offset of these wheels, the OEM gap is visually reduced.

I know a few people for some strange reason dont like that they are knock offs. but i agree. The M2 rims look awesome IMO, and if they are made well, why not get them cheaper. I am just not a fan of a lot of aftermarket rims. They dont look well on our cars. Except maybe the BBS rims which are ridiculously expensive

my .02, the stock 235/240 rims are one of the best oem wheels i have ever seen.

My others sets i have purchased are strictly lightweight (enkei and apex).
I think the m2 wheels are too plain and boring.

how much do they weigh each?

The wheels are 22lbs which is fractionally lighter than stock. I too think the OEM wheels look good, but these look so much more meaty and aggressive, yet still a bit elegant. Plus, they look dang near like 19s.

I really love the fact that I'll be able to run 245s in the front now and run a square setup. The front end of the car has always felt a little under-tired. The wider 245s teamed with slightly more track from the new wheel offset should help a bit.

I have a set of 235/40R18 MPSS tires sitting in my basement from my prior 2012 WRX, but those tires are about 1/2 narrower and just over 5/16" taller than the 245/35R18 when compared side by side. I don't want to go any narrower in the back and nor do I want the tire any taller, further reducing torque multiplication of the taller 6MT gearing. I could run the 235/40s in the front, but I fear the excessive difference in front/rear height will flake out the traction/ABS systems.

Thanks for the verification on fit - I'm seriously considering stepping up to a square non-RFT setup and it is good to have confirmation on the 245's.

Regarding your 235's, There is apparently already about a 2% diff already in tire circumference f-r, so do the math, this may not be any worse, just in the other direction (I dk the exact figures, but if you run a search there has been some discussion of this - apparently factory specs exceed common recc's from the tire sellers of 1% difference).

And I'd put in a plug for the Sparco Pro Corsa's - running them for winters (at 17") and they look so good I almost hate to switch back, apparently engineered by OZ.

Perhaps it's the MPSS tires, but the MPSS 235/40R18 is much taller than the rear 245/35R18 tires. The OEM MPSS 225/40R18 front tires are fractionally taller than the 245/35R18 tires and the MPSS 235/40R18 are noticeably taller than either OEM tire. I'd love to use the 235/40s, but I fear it may look a little funny and the speed sensors won't be happy.

Yes, if that much, it would be a bad idea. Wouldn't want to cook the diff.
