Aftermarket Exhaust Advice (too loud)
I picked up a 2016 M235i this past weekend and have been really enjoying it so far, but I can't help but feel a bit like a highschool kid in a WRX with the exhaust noise. It has a full Fabspeed exhuast with the catless DP, resonator and muffler bypass. It sounds great but it's basically straight-piped and I'm looking to do something to quiet it down a little bit and get rid of most of the drone. I'm taking it to a trusted local custom exhaust shop to take a look on Saturday but it seems like a shame to hack up the Fabspeed and throw a resonator and muffler on.
Has anybody had a similar experience or have any advice on what to do? I'd like to avoid sacrificing performance but definitely want to cut down the noise. I looked through the forums for a while but this is a semi-specific question. Thanks. |

Instead of modifying the fabspeed exhaust, sell it and get another system thats not as loud. Most balanced system in my opinion is the REMUS exhaust

Post on the FS forum that you'd be willing to swap the catback for an OEM catback plus a little money for someone local in your area. There's no performance gain with catback. The OEM catback teamed with the DP will sound very healthy and sporty, won't have any drone, and when the windows are up, it will be pretty quiet. With the windows open/cracked, you'll be thrilled with the sound.
Swapping the catbacks is EASY.

Update: I got the car up on a lift and actually took a look for the first time. The dealer was mistaken and the midpipe was not replaced and still has the stock resonator. I think I'll try to find somebody around here that wants to do a swap or sell the fabspeed axle back once I change it up. Thanks for the recommendations

https://afepower.com/afe-power-49-36...exhaust-system it uses factory valve motor exhaust splits but one is straight pipe other is muffler when valve is closed it forces exhaust thru muffler. when valve open its full straight pipe and half the price of similiar setups like armytrix Last edited by Auto_Fpv; 02-29-2020 at 08:00 PM.. I’m fully straight piped on my M235i and I love it, for those who don’t I would get an exhaust cut out to a bypass resonator or even just sell the fabspeed system and get a mufflered system.
