Wavetrac Diff for M235i
I'm having a wavetrac diff built up for me at Diffsonline.
I've done business with Dan in the past so I can vouch for them and their customer service and quality. The price and only 30% lock of the M-Perf diff wasn't compelling to me. So I contacted them asking if they had a solution for the M235's. Dan had to do some homework with his BMW motorsport contacts, because our Diff isn't shared by any other models. He was able to figure something out pretty quick, and recommended a wavetrac type diff, which I think will work perfect for our torquey beast :-) I'll post a review as soon as its installed on the car. |

I contacted Quaife a while back about their option for the 235. can't find the email but theirs was around $1300 for pumpkin plus $750 for the machine work (welded ring gear or something like that). and a 3 week downtime.

I believe those two diffs(M and wavetrac) are different type.

Correct, the M-Diff is a traditional clutch pack setup.
The wavetrac is a helical gear type. Variable lock http://www.wavetrac.net/ I cant really speak about pricing, but Dan did say he was going to put together something competitive. So if you are interested just contact him. (They can also do a lot of custom things for each build... different ratios, ramps, polish ring/pinion, etc...) |

I'm sure the actual gear part is the same as some of the other BMW applications, but since we have a ring gear that is factory welded, some machining does need to be done for an install.
The nice thing about getting from Diffsonline, is they build it all up using a new M235i diff. They send it to you, install the new one, and then send your old one back. So no downtime except for the bolt up time. |

Op, I had a wavetrac diff on a gti I had and it was awesome, you are going to love it. I had 400whp to the wheels on a fwd car and with the wavetrac it was manageable.
I got the m diff port installed, kinda annoys me though. Any BMW with a M badge should not be a open diff car, period. |
