The M2 is the car that lots of enthusiast have been waiting for. I don't even care if they go with a 4 banger. As a matter of fact I think it would make more sense. M5/6 is a 8, M3/4 is a 6, so the M2 with a 4 would make sense.
I'm a die hard inline 6 fan, but have come to appreciate what the new turbo 4's can do. My DD is a VW GTI and it has more usable power than an S52 for example. Direct injection, turbo charging and all the modern technology would make a 4 cylinder adequate, as long as the chassis stays light and nimble.

Quite naive assumptions. BMW wants to sell the new M235i, if they would say that an M2 is coming half of the customers would be waiting for that instead.

As long as there is an A45 AMG, a CLA45 AMG, an Audi RS3 and a very successful 1M, you can bet there will be an M2 and it will be sooner rather than later.

The 1M you mention didn't have a S motor. Just a re-tuned N54.

The M3/4 isn't getting hydraulic steering, so I wouldn't expect it on the M2.

According to BMW's Klaus Froehlich, the M235i is faster than the 1M around the ring so this isn't true. At least for ring times: M2 > M235i > 1M.

In terms of performance? Such a ridiculous statement.

What if the car came out to being 200 lbs lighter than an M235i with 20 more hp? Not to mention LSD with torque vectoring? Then it'll still be slower than a 1M because it doesn't have hydraulic steering or an S55?

I have a hard time seeing them release an m2. otherwise, they wouldn't of had the m235i and plus it would take the sales of the m3/m4 away...

I agree... they might do a limited production run though just so that would'nt happen.

It would really be a perfect car as long as it comes with HUD

The M2 will be a rockstar if it comes with the S55. I'll buy that thing day 1. With a 4 banger though I think a modded M235 with LSD would be a much better buy

Except the N54 is ten times the motor the N55 is like it or not.

Hydraulic steering is a matter of feel, every eps car i've driven has been crap. They no longer feel like bmw's... M235i is faster around the ring means nothing to a guy who drives 99% on the street as 99% of M3 onwers do.

Sadly we'll just have to wait and see

Finally someone with some sense. There is no positive confirmation or denial of an M2 at the moment, although Nitschke definitely gives us hope that it could happen.

Constantly arguing about whether or not it's coming is pointless.
