18x8 -35 square is a popular size from manufacturers.

I was thinking of going staggered on the tires despite the square wheels with 225/40 up front and 245/35 in back

anyone have experience with this setup? Pictures would be appreciated.

Yes, that was a dash not a minus

If you look at wheels on the ECS site for the F22 many are +35 offset

Still looking for an answer whether 18 x 8 with a 35 offset and staggered tires will work.

You will get some poke. Whether or not it's too much for you is subjective.
The ideal square 18x8in wheel offset for the 2 with OEM suspension is ~ET42.

7mm is only 1/4 of an inch. Hmmm sounds ok.

18x8 ET35 in the rear is 17mm further out than the OE staggered wheel/tire combination.

And in the front it is 10mm further out.

Is 18x8 +42 a flush fitment?

FWIW, I ran F3x oem style 397 18" x 8" et34mm with oem MPSS 225/245 on my F20 M135i.

Despite being lowered and running F8x front arms - zero issues.

"Flush" is subjective.
It would be 10mm further out than the OE staggered rear wheel/tire.
