228i Exhaust Options

Hey everyone,

Found some older threads on this but wanted to resurface, I have a 228i (stock other then BM3 Stage 1, don't plan on stage 2) and would like a bit more noise. I have an N26 so believe I have 2 cats.

Is the muffler delete still what people recommend for easiest increase? Or that and removing a cat? I normally drive city with 25% highways.

Also saw the Active Auto cat-back. Just wondering if there are similar options below $600.

Thanks!

I cut the muffler out; well my local muffler shop did. Replaced it with 2.5 inch pipe out to a single 3.5 inch exhaust tip. Cost about $250.

Cold startup is pretty noisy. After about 30 seconds it quiets down to a nice tone at idle, very subtle. I like the extra exhaust noise around town. I love it at the track, I can finally hear some engine noise!

However, at highway speeds it can drone a little. I don't notice it as much as my wife does.

Thanks! Yeah drone is what I was afraid of since it's not a quiet car on the highway to begin with, wonder if I could have a shop chop off and keep my double-tips.

Hey Mike,

Do you know if it will burble on a tune without those set? All the videos I can find seem to have burbles but I'd rather avoid at lower speeds.

You need a flash tune + activate burble for that sound. If you do not like it, you dont have to to worry about it

A tune,(such as MHD's) has the option to set your Burble/afterfire.

you can set duration, intensity,RPM activation and more. If you don't like it, it can be turned off all together

Thanks! I'm about ready to pull the trigger, random question but has anyone ever painted the new tips with high-temp spray paint? I'd like them to be black to match the OEM tips now but avoid ceramic/dipping costs haha.

I remember seeing a thread of someone doing it, it was years ago
