Very exciting new offering from Dinan - I'm definitely interested in adding this to my 228i N26!!

I may have missed this somewhere in the post, but did the quoted MAX gains for the N20 / N26 (+30 HP, +50TRQ) come from a vehicle with other mods (i.e.: downpipe, intake, turbo, etc), or was it otherwise stock?

Cross-posting from the F30 forum. I had an opportunity today to put BMS Stage 1 and Dinantronics Sport on a dyno. Granted, both companies say to allow for ECU "adjustment" period, but I didn't have the luxury of time. There are still measurable gains right after plugging in both products.

2013 328i, 8AT, no bolt-ons. Chevron 92 octane. Ambient temp in the shop was 92-94F during 1hr session. Humidity 15%. Dynojet 428 at Carb Connection in Kirkland, WA. The runs were performed in 5th gear (1.285 ratio) starting at about 2000 RPM. Dinah unit was set to default setting of +3PSI. Raw files are available here.

STD vs SAE

3 best runs with BMS vs 3 best runs with Dinan. They overlay pretty well, except for best Dinan run picking up a little more torque below 3k. It probably has more to do with my inexperienced dyno foot than the chips.

Pretty impressive considering that the Dinan product isn't their full Stage 1.

I'm liking the smoothness of the DINAN maps versus the BMS.

For daily driving does this kick in when gas pedal is < 50% depressed? (Similar to how BMS does) Or will it always be boost +3 psi.

Dinan_Engineering,

According to the installation instructions, this unit is shipped in Sport + mode. Once installed, are performance gains recognized in the other settings without using the app? i.e. - if I install it right out of the box, will I notice a different in ECO, Comfort/Normal, and Sport modes or do I need to switch to Sport + for this to work?

If I do not have an Android device, is it imperative to wait for the iOS app?

Can you provide any 0-60 or 1/4 mile example times for a stock 228i VS. a 228i with the Dinan Sport?

Thanks!

The driving modes still function normally. Simply with more power to each of them is all. Sport + as far as the unit is concerned is just the name of the power setting and does not correlate to those actual driving modes directly.

You do not have to wait for the iOS app. Without an android device you just won't be able to switch settings is all. Chances are you know a friend that has a Android device in the meantime if you get curious though.

We do not do any 0-60 or 1/4 mile testing. Too many variables at play that can greatly affect a measurement where 0.1 seconds is the difference between great and horrible (especially 0-60 with launch). We stick to dyno's that can be accurately repeated for performance metrics. That said in hypothetical land, given the performance gain you should be seeing reductions of ~0.2 seconds on 0-60 times given same before and after conditions.

This is important to me too. I had the 'simple' BMS box on my 3 series which I used in the summer but I eventually removed it. I didn't like the jumpiness.

Did you find the Dinan smoother? I'd be willing to give one of these simple boxes another try if Dinan was smoother. I pick up my new 228i this Saturday.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Interesting dyno results. Dare I say it proves what myself and many have said all along about bms stage 1 killing low end power and torque in a very noticeable way?

Question regarding the App. If I use the App to change the setting does it remain in that setting after turning off the car or after restarting the car does it go to the factory Sport + setting +3 PSI? Just to confirm once more the setting is applicable to all modes not just Sport or Sport +?

Remains in that setting until it is changed again regardless of if the car is restarted or not. And yes, SPORT affects all driving modes.

Dinan_Engineering I have your stage 1 tune. Are there plans to enhance the phone app to allow for more control like this sport tuner?

Eventually yes. Its on the docket at least. A lot more back-end gymnastics have to go on with the ELITE app though. We keep trying to get the powers that be to hire a dedicated app person as we all think that would be beneficial for everyone in the building but so far that doesn't seem to be getting us very far. If any app developers are out there and want a job and can wow management with a plan you are more then welcome to do so.

Sorry, been a little busy
So, as stated the install was super simple and so far no issues at all. The butt dyno says there is an increase in power throughout the rev range. I like the roll on power mid rev range, making passing even easier, nothing like my 135 but better than stock. For the price it's a great power add on. Now we just need the app for the apple crowd

I just got mine too. Piss-easy install compared with the AA8 I had for a while. Quick test run in the default mode (I'm an Apple guy so I can't change it yet) felt pretty good. More when I've done a few more miles.

Got it installed today! Very easy! Noticeable gains in normal and sport. App is easy to use and only tried Sport+ so far. Sport+ in Sport is pretty satisfying! Still need more open road to really let it loose. I also have the Dinan Intake with the Dinatronics Sport.
