Took the plunge and went extreme with these. Ready for the arctic blast headed our way.

Looks like you're missing a cover in the wheel well

Nice! Given where you are, I'm not sure those are necessarily extreme.

The only reason I didn't run studded winters in Northern New England was that I didn't want to listen to the studs on dry pavement. We certainly had enough ice and steep roads to justify studded tires. They were uncommon up there, though - the only people running them were those who felt they had to have them to get through winter.

I take those out over the summer to get some more air to the brakes; they went back in right after I snapped the pics.

The noise does take some getting used to, but I'm telling myself it is the tire equivalent of a muffler delete (aka the sound of performance). I'm feeling better about it with each time I drive past people spun out on glazed pavement or the freezing rain we got yesterday. They say these high tech studs don't detract from the dry handling much either, but compared to the summer tires it is a noticeable shift.

I'd forgotten about that claimed advance (which I'm fully prepared to believe).

Going back 45 years, I recall skating around on studded tires while trying to keep my Volvo 122S on the road for three-hundred miles of I-80 between Evanston and Laramie, Wyoming. The wind out there frequently pushed the vehicles of unwary motorists and truckers off that highway.
