Are these the official snap-in adapters from BMW, or is this something non-OEM?

Those appear to be Genuine BMW parts; found multiple sales points via a part number search. I figured the 6/6 Plus would need a Snap In Adapter that sat on top of the contacts instead of above them because of its length. I dig the aluminum mount points.

There isn't a dedicated one for the 6 Plus (what I have) yet; that universal iPhone one is clunky-looking.

Now the question is: when does BMW USA bring 'em on over the pond?

I have used it in my previous cars (and it's great) but I prefer not to have a case on my phone or glue anything to it.
Man, I can't wait to get my car and start experimenting...
I'm tempted to get this since I don't like bulky mounts, I'd rather have something that looks sleek when not in use. However, where on the 2 would the Steelie go? I don't want to put the phone in front of the display screen, but there doesn't seem to be any clear are the ball can be attached to the car?

Well, gentlemen, I have given this much thought and I am sharing my strategy just in case there are others here who are as incapable of drilling holes or performing other forms of interior DIY on their cars as I am. I know many of you will say it's easy but a man has to know his limitations.

- Snap-in adapter: After BMW informed me that the part had been discontinued, they found one for my iPhone 5. A lot of people despise the things (especially given what they cost) because the iPhone music interface takes over the iDrive screen, disallowing split-screen, and their value in general is disputed. I am going to go ahead with mine because at the very least it will allow me to stow the phone securely in the center compartment while recharging it and it might enhance certain aspects of the iPhone's compatibility with the iDrive system/exterior antenna. However, I am also doing the following, in the spirit of belt and suspenders:

- I am getting this Belkin cup-holder mount because it is simple, black, unobtrusive and, given my experience of Belkin products, well designed and sturdily built.

- I will use this BMW USB charger, conveniently situated right behind the cup holder, to charge the phone while it is in the mount, with this short, again unobtrusive, high-quality cable.

- Because, as I say, it would be a disaster if I attempted to rig a channel from the USB outlet in the center compartment to the phone in its mount (although I would contemplate paying someone with real expertise to do so) when I need the USB connection for the car's ConnectedDrive utilities, which I have got sorted and like, I will just have to run a longer Lightning cable from the center compartment to the phone, hoping that closing the lid will neither sever nor crush the cable. If I trim the cable to optimal length I can live with the slight messiness of this solution.

So that's that. Excessive, I know, and with a lot of redundancy, but I may decide the snap-in isn't worth using, in which, the other kit will get me equivalent capability.

You'd actually pay someone to drill a tiny whole for the lightning cord for the cup holder. I don't know if the term "expertise" is appropriate for anyone that is taking a $25 power drill, a 50 cent drill bit and taking 5-10 seconds to drill a whole. In terms of making a channel. There is no channel being made, simply tucking iphone cable under existing plastic by your right leg and then up through the whole you created in the cup holder base. This is a 1 minute job.

But, to each his own, I get why some people aren't big on drilling wholes in a $50k car. Enjoy your solution, but your fear of DYI on this one I think is a bit overdone, but you know yourself better than I.

I am actually in the process of making a carbon fiber one with built in wireless charger. I will post pics when I finish.

I have never worked with Cf so I am not really sure how it will come out. My backup plan is to use aluminum and do a polished or brushed finish.

I have the prototype done from aluminum and steel which I am going to use as a form for the CF

I wired it down on the left side of the central dashboard and then up to the ashtray. To go up to the ashtray I removed the knee pad to get cable from the side of the central console to the little hole that is underneath the ashtray. The only visible cable I have is from the ashtray to the actual dock but just ordered the rubber pad to make it less visible (I didn't want to drill my cup holder to get the cable in. Only the iPhones 5 or 6 will work with this setup but it is very stable.

I just did this 3d print cupholder mount as well. I took it a step further and drilled a hold slightly bigger than lightning plug in bottom left side of cupholder. There is a rubber bottom part that comes out of bottom of cupholder. You need to drill 1/2 in bottom and 1/2 into side. Then take a snake/fish wire tool to go through that hole and out towards the bottom of the plastic part by your right leg. Tape lightning cable to fish and pull through hole. Put rubber bottom back in, whole is no longer visible and then put new cup mount in. No visible wires and easy to dock phone daily to USB from the center armrest. Also having the factory rubber bottom cover the whole I made makes it easy to keep stock look should you sell or return a leased car.

I've been using my Airframe for a month now and couldn't be happier. A clever, well made piece. Holds phone at any angle. Super solid. And I love that it's small and easily removable.

I have the Belkin cup holder mount. Fits snug and different to what some say I have no issue in moving the phone in and out with one hand only.

Although not an iphone, this is my mount. It's the window / suction HTC mount modified to fit into the left cup holder insert. I'd have preferred mounting it all somewhat higher in my line of site but nothing else worked for me.

That's what I use when I'm traveling in a different car, or if I really need the iPhone high. Brilliantly engineered, well made, very high-quality materials.

Received the Belkin car cup holder, it's absolutely perfect for my needs. I would normally just toss the phone with cable attached to the arm rest connector in one of the cup holders, the usability of this mount is great. I listen to music often in the car and flag stuff to delete / keep using the ratings system so this has made that a lot more usable.

The big question is, is it easy to get in and out of the holder? Can you do it with one hand?

I think it's pretty easy. Attaching the cable usually requires two hands and then sliding it into the holder isn't too bad, although I haven't gotten down a method for doing it with one hand - just got it yesterday.

The mount swivels sideways in a tolerance. When fixing the mount to the cup holder choose the position in a way that your preferred view angle is in line with the max sideways position of the mount.
Then the mount supports your grip and you can easily remove the phone with one hand.
