Exclamation Second cigarette lighter port?

Is there a second cigarette lighter outlet power outlet in the 2 series besides the one near the cup holders? In the M4 (and maybe all F3x) there is an outlet under the glove box in the passenger footwell area.

Oh awesome! That might be able to work. I am looking to install a dash cam but my radar detector is already taking up the front power outlet

Had you though about hardwiring into the fuse box ? You don't need to splice into existing car wiring but buy a fuse holder that has a wire attached that uses existing fuse box location plus a power cord for the device that crimps to the fuse box wire ?

Had you noticed how easy it is to run wiring from near the rear view mirror into the headliner edges down the A-pillar and either to the window base across top of dash or under door weather stripping under dash ?

BTW a third power outlet in the trunk.

The path of least resistance is to mirror tap the radar detector then use either outlet for dashcam or usb in glovebox.

Just hard wired mine yesterday. It's super easy and doesn't take up a cigarette lighter. Also it can be always on to record when parked. Definitely the way to do it.

I didnt want to hard wire.

I purchased this 2x cig 2x usb and mounted in the glove box. The only wire you see is the one that comes out of the corner of the glove box and plugs into the cig lighter by the cup holders.

The radar detector and dash cam wires are neatly tucked under the headliner and behind the passenger pillar. It gives you 2 usb ports for phones or other things as well.

Its also just 1 quick plug to unplug or plug in.

Did you mirror tap yourself, if so was it hard? and do I need a blendmount if I'm gonna mirror tap? last I checked those things were pricey

You do not need a blend mount at all the two things are completely unrelated. The mirror tap is literally 30 seconds of work, 2 minutes if you have a convertible. You pull the cover apart, shove the taps in, tuck the wire away and you are done.

The blend mount does nothing beyond what it's name would imply, it mounts the detector aka hangs it where it is going to live. You can use a blend mount, whatever came with your particular detector, or another option that I would HIGHLY recommend is one of these:

Just make sure you get the right one for your detector. Cheap, durable, and low profile.

Read this and review the video enclosed with it.

http://www.vortexradar.com/2016/07/h...adar-detector/

Then go to YouTube and search for BMW dash-cam hardwire.

The VortexRadar link above should really clue you in.

someone told me to use Mil Spec connectors, chk this out

They don't make wires for dash cams that plug into mirror do they?

There is another one on the RH side of the glovebox, underneath. On Aussie cars, anyway....

Reviving this ghost thread because I had the same question, lol.

Found that on M240, as noted above, on the bottom of the glove compartment, left side footwell, there is a hole there seemingly for a 12V outlet, but it's empty.

Has anyone installed a 12V outlet there? Fuse-block tap or otherwise? I may just do that, but figured to ask if anyone has gone before
