On order. $38.71 after tax for the pair, 8 - 10 business days for delivery. I'll need to drive 10 miles each way to pick them up. That's OK, I like driving my car.

On order. $35.90, before tax, for the pair, from the venerable bavauto. I bought a 'few' other things, so free shipping. Not sure of shipping time but probably about a week.

Mine is a 2016 M235i, maybe it is a model issue fix?

UK Spec Confirmed
Talked to the Parts department at my dealer here in the UK today. We confirmed that neither 235 nor 228 should be fitted with them but that the one diesel model checked does have them.
I ordered a pair for my 235 at UKP12.75 each (about 18.30 US each). Being in Europe, I get next-day delivery. |

Seals Installed
Collected and installed the seals today. They are a bit fiddly to install but don't take too long and need no tools. Haven't had time to go very far but the cabin is definitely quieter, losing some road noise (I think).
Here's my thoughts on fitting: I started by opening the door wide and, working from inside, dropping the seal down beyond the hinges, straps etc so it was lightly wedged within the back of the wing (ie ahead of the door's inner leading edge. The rounded top of the seal has a recess for the prominent bolt which makes it easy to get it at the right height (and to tell the top of the seal from the bottom). I chose then to work from half way down the seal and hook it around the flange of the front wing - the space to work is biggest there. Once a few inches are tucked in, the seal is quite well located so you can adjust the height. I then worked back up to the top, outside the car with the door partly open just pushing the seal by hand until it wrapped around the flange and sat neatly in place (my picture of the partly installed run of seal shows that it's obvious when it's correctly fitted). At the top, from inside the door the curved section of the seal falls into place and tucks in if the height is right; if not, a gentle tug will still move it up and down at this stage. Then I worked down to the bottom. The bottom end of the seal seems quite big. There's a kink in the bodywork and a matching kink in the seal - when they align it all just falls into place. Part of it disappears into the bodywork and the rest forms a rounded lip that protrudes a little towards the door. At the very bottom, there's quite a big lip. Probably 5 minutes each side and the second one is much easier than the first, no great skill required: just a little patience. Last edited by ThreeToTwo; 07-20-2016 at 11:09 AM.. |

In today. Knocked the noise down a noticeable amount. 5 minutes to figure out how the first one went in, 2 minutes to do the second.

Ridgeway in Bournemouth but I think any Parts department should be able to find them for you. Someone posted the following diagram (I can't remember where so I'm repeating it here). It came up the same on the Parts Department's computer - just ask them to look at a diesel model, not an M235i. |

Once that was done each side took 5 minutes. Just get it in place loose from top to bottom. Once it is lined up I started pushing it in at the top and worked my way down. You have to open the door in between halfway and all the way open to use your fingers to push it in the opening. I used the end of a 12 inch wooden ruler to make sure it was seated properly. Don't use something pointed, like a screwdriver, it will go right thru the soft rubber. Now I'll drive it and see if it is any different, quieter. Ummm, so when are you going to tell us??? So, at highway speeds the cabin might be a little less noise from the from up front. But under acceleration, no difference that I noticed. |

Today I figured out why the 228's come with this insulation the M235's do not. As I was walking out of the office, a brand new 328 started up and drove off and it was shocking how loud that turbo 4 is on a cold start. It sounded almost like a diesel. Many of the magazines have noted the volume as well. It's so "knocky" in fact that I had to look at the back end to make sure I saw the 328 and not a "D". LOL
