Does the brake dust get better?
I'm familiar with BMW brakes and the amount of Brake dust they produce having previously owned an e39 528i, e36M3, e46M3, and an e90 335i but so far the M235 is pretty insane and I'm not even pushing the car yet as I'm gently breaking her in!! The brake dust is ridiculous after a couple of days of normal gentle driving !!
Please tell me it gets a little better once the brakes are fully bedded |

Still the worst Brake dust problem I've ever had on a car at 2200 miles

I think part of the reason we are seeing more brake dust on this car is the rotors are much bigger then older cars. Someone at my work said "Did you see that BMW that was parked up front this morning. You could take the tires off and run it on the rotors they are so big."
It hadn't dawned on me till then but they are much larger then older bmw's. I am sure this is the reason for my brake dust. If you wax them it definitely helps with cleaning. I wish they could paint them using that Never Wet technology from rustoleum. Then you could run any pad and it wouldn't really matter. Most of the dust would never stick.

I also have lots of brake dust in my M235i but the gunmetal rims hide it exceptionally well, better than silver or even black (probably). Therefore I am okay with that. I pity the fool who bought 228i with M-Sport package and M-brakes though

That sounds like a good idea. I just finished applying the first coat of wax, but didn't consider doing the wheels. I think I'll give it a try. Like we used to say at work, "What could go wrong?"

Please explain.....I have a 228i Sportline coming with Track Package which will have the MSport brakes. It has the darker toned wheel, per the photos in the ordering guide. I intend to get Akebono pads as soon as they are released, but why is a 228i with MSport brakes owner a fool???

No M Brakes on my 228 Msport (I know, I screwed up) but still LOTS LOTS of brake dust. However when I had car Opto Coated he also did the wheels and that REALLY helps cleanup.

Getting silver rims with M-Sport brakes is a foolish idea if you care more about appearance than performance. You will have to clean your rims every single day. I am the fool myself for previously buying 128i with sport package. That car's rims required cleanup every 2-3 days. With M-Sport brakes it is even worse. I am just trying to offer a friendly heads-up here so people don't get screwed by BMW and their poorly engineered brakes.

I would not say poorly engineered just way too dusty.
You can buy lower dust pads. |

Just for conversation, I believe the M235 when the wipers or windshield rain sensor is activated uses the brake pads to swipe moisture off the disks as a precautionary safety device to help braking performance when wet. If this is the case the type of pad may be very important.

i use Collinite double coat wax. Its a thick wax but protects longer. Its can be a lengthy process as i pull the wheels off the car to clean and wax. I do have a lift so it makes it much easier to pull them all at once.

Worse than the excessive break dust itself is the dirt buildup from car wash and rain water that catches the brake dust and residue and debris in the "well" groove within the wheel. Fresh out of the car wash not to mention rain, the dirt is dried and caught in the groove. They could have solved this with just 3 micro sized holes placed in the well at 12, 20, and 40.
