Dinan turbo/PS1 With BM3 2H tune
Has anyone with the dinan turbo or pure stage 1 turbo ran the stage 2h tune from bm3 on their car? I was told the 2H tune is for all aftermarket turbos but not all aftermarket turbos are made equal. Would this be safe to do or should i avoid it completely?

I think it was meant for the bigger turbos (PS2 equivalent) but honestly don't know. Would be worth asking PTF directly to get a clear answer

I'm interested in their answer as well. I've seen posts about people flashing the map with stock turbos and seeing some gains, but they did not give a definitive answer about long term reliability.

Would definitely not be good on stock turbo since it is recommended for hybrid turbos but it does give some gain I heard. Can't imagine the stock turbo would like it

ptf responded saying that it is for all aftermarket turbos. still a bit concerning to me though since aftermarket turbos can be very different from one another. Might throw in some octane booster and do a couple logs to see how it looks.

I agree. Yeah, can't hurt to see what it does. Please post a log when you get the chance

Here’s the relevant link: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1774687
It’s fine to run stock, stage 1, or stage 2 turbos. However, the outcome is different. With the stock turbo, WGDC is consistently 95+, so maxing it out for sure. Plus, power drops off significantly after 5500rpm, so you need to shift at 6k to maximize speed. With my Dinan, I got a few more peak hp and it held power much better up top, and my WGDC is low 90s. Altho, it’s still a pretty significant drop and I shift ~6100rpm. Looks like the map is good enough for a 7.4-7.5 100-200, but I haven’t been able to try much. With a PS2, peak jumps from 440-445whp to 500whp, and the upper RPM power curve is much better so you don’t have to shift early. So, it works, just really need to watch your logs and shift earlier with the smaller turbos. The plus side is I hit 507wftlbs @ 2600rpm from the faster spool up of the smaller turbo, which makes the car a riot around town! Last edited by ZM2; 03-08-2021 at 09:10 PM.. |

A PS2 with any E30-50 mix really needs a Stage 2 HPFP to not have any issues. I don’t quite know the differences bn the 2H and 2+ maps. 2+ targets 20.5-20.9-psi and I can hold that pretty consistently with my setup. Power just drops off above 6k bc the Stage 1 turbo can’t flow enough to keep up. If your Stg 2H maps are anything like the Stg 2 93/E30 maps for the M2 (~17psi), I was never able to really maximize the Stg 2 E30 map bc my stock HPFP was weaker than some. And, I found Stg 2 93 needed octane booster or a cpl gal of E85 in the summer to keep timing clean, so that’s what led me down the Stg 2+ E30 path. |

Drivability is a freaking blast. Super fast spool and can spin my 285s in 3rd when doing logs. Coupled with THOR DCT tune in my case (xHP for you guys), and I’ve never loved my car more. MDM is now very much your friend around town. I do wish it would rev full power to redline, but I’m learning to shift early to stay in the tune’s power band with the smaller turbo. IDK if I’m willing to trade fast spool for more power (PS2), but it’d be nice to feel/try the difference both around town and on track. My Dinan turbo is a relic of my old Stage 4 Dinan setup, and this tune with proper fueling absolutely destroys my old full Dinan package. |

Im gonna try the bm3 stage 2 e30 map within the next week as I heard ethanol really wakes the car up. I have an ethanol tester kit that I have yet to use so that should be helpful when calculating mixture. Any tips besides trying to get a good mixture calculation? |

THOR does not have a shift point option like xHP. xHP for DCT didn’t come out until recently or I would have gone that path. Now it’s essentially $500 to switch to get that feature for me. CalculatE85 and Alt Fuel are great apps to keep handy as you start working with E85. |

Sick thank you! I know if the car is tuned to run E30 then running something a bit under wouldn't sit well. Would you say the car would be okay running something like E28ish (not that I mean to put in E28 just throwing out a factor if it were to happen) and the car would compensate? Im guessing it would pull timing and possibly knock. I know going over the E30 mark would not make my hpfp happy. |

That forced me to upgrade the HPFP, but it also made mixing easier bc I just go half 93/half E85. |

Super knock is bad so do not drive the car hard until you figure out & resolve the issue. |
