Still love the look of mine, though one came scratched and another was slightly loose. I fixed them myself and they said they would credit me the shipping costs back, but that never happened. So beware.

If you go CF I'd go OEM or ask around for a good aftermarket brand. The ones I got from Amazon started out fine, but now I'm getting bubbling/separation around the top ridge. :/ Overall you don't notice it, but i do whenever I wash my car or wax the mirror caps.

Thanks man. I'm trying to take it slowly, but it's hard to resist. Trying to figure out what to do next. Waste money on a stage 1 tune knowing that I'll replace it later or build up the mod budget a bit longer for a downpipe.

Just did mine. No tools, took 5 seconds per side. I hooked my fingernails under the vertical medial (closest to the car) edge and pried and pulled and the cover came off with one motion, one click. No damage. New covers snapped in place.

Some say that the auto dimming mirrors are very sensitive to breakage, they are 2 thin films of glass. Anyone had success with these?

I have auto-dimming mirrors and replaced with the AutoID carbon fibre (the plain, not the M2 shape):
I was very careful removing the mirrors and took my time, as I was nervous about damage, but it all went OK. I spent about 20 mins to do the first but only 5 mins to do the second as I was more confident. It is unnerving that you seem to be levering the mirror quite hard and then hear this 'snap' sound as it pops out ... but it was fine. I used an ice scraper with a cloth wrapped around the end so as not to score either the mirror or the base surround, and levered along as much of the edge as possible to spread the load. I would add to wind the windows down before you start, so you can perch the mirror on the door sill. Otherwise it's easy for the mirror to slide and dangle by its wires, which doesn't seem a good idea. My car is estoril blue and I think that gloss black or body colour would have worked just as well as CF. But the AutoID CF hasn't faded or otherwise degraded. As there are two EB colours, which changed around the time my car was built, I didn't want to find they'd used the wrong shade, so I didn't go for body colour. I still don't understand why BMW didn't just use body colour or gloss black rather than the wierd grey-that-looks-like-primer.

I dont agree with just Pulling on the caps.. Shit can go wrong and theres honestly no need to brake shit when the Mirror can easily be removed.

Just replaced mine using the directions above, I did use a two inch plastic pry tool, easy and quick. My thanks for posting. First mod for new M240 xdrive.
Factory silver caps looked like crap with Sunset Orange Metallic, I didn’t want to pay for the factory carbon fiber option when I ordered the car. ECS Tuning sold me AUTOTECHNiIC, excellent finish and fit. Last edited by Southshore M235; 10-07-2017 at 04:19 PM.. |

Just a warning guys. I popped my mirrors off today to get at my caps. I ended up breaking the glass on the passenger side.
So theses mirrors are heated and autodimming? It looks like two layers of glass with a liquid between them. Time to get on the phone with Brian. |

I did the same thing. Shattered the passenger side glass trying to pry it off to install black mirror caps.
For the m240i the passenger side mirror is heated but not auto-dimming. The driver's side mirror is both heated and auto-dimming. At the time (December 2017) the dealer seemed unprepared for repairing 2018's...they didn't know if it was the same part as the 2017 and indicated it would be a long time before they could get one. They also told me that they would have to remove the interior door trim to make the repair with a ridiculous cost. I wound up buying this as a replacement: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/51167285000/ That one omits the warning text...so I now consider it an 'upgrade' over the original. I installed the replacement myself (without removing the door trim), and also pulled the driver's side mirror without incident. Last edited by wally92; 06-10-2018 at 12:45 PM.. Reason: Clarify that the door trim did not need to be removed |

Right when the thing cracked I was like Fuu***********... I'm sure that was a $50-100 mistake. Then I plugged it into Google and was getting OEM results well above $300. That's a good way to ruin your day. And the video I watched from this thread.... I kept thinking about what the guy said " don't worry about breaking the mirror when you pop it out" HAAA. |

So I got one just like the one you sent a link for. It didn't have the plastic surround on it though. Did you pull that off the old one? |

I have CF mirrors caps in transit right now and was wondering for those with the CF version, do you notice any fading after some time? I saw one the other day and it was faded as hell and looked ugly. I'm thinking about spraying a UV clear before installing. Anyone else do this to prevent fading?
