Anyone have any experience with the
DINANTRONICS Elite V2 for the BMW B58 for M240i? Are there different maps to choose from? Also, does anyone know how I can get this installed in california? Their website says not for sale in California :/

2) Not that I'm aware of. 3) Find an independent shop that works on BMWs, and ask them if they'll install it for you. Based upon the instructions, it's pretty straightforward, so if you can't find a shop to do it (and there's bound to be one somewhere in your region), ask a friend who's handy to help you with it. Also, remember that Dinan is available for support.

It raised the top speed from 134.6 to 138.8 going into China Beach at Mid-Ohio. That's a significant increase, and it tells me the tune provided around an 8-10% increase in power.
I don't notice any difference on the street, but I doubt I ever go past 30-35% throttle except at the track.

I actually just removed mine from my car since I went a different route and it is currently for sale. It has the stage 1 tune on it and came off my '17 m240.
It's actually pretty easy to install yourself, I could walk you through it if need be. You basically plug in about 4 sensors and just run the wires underneath the engine cover. All pretty tidy and only requires zip ties and a torx bit (don't recall the size) for the ground and the positive. |

FWIW, if you go to the Dinan website they have downloadable install instructions for the .v2.
You can highlight DINANTRONICS Elite V2 and search. you get the Dinan website appearing with that item appearing in the link. The download is right there. |

I just had my Stage 1 (Elite) .v1 replaced with the .v2 due to recurring CEL (which didn't effect performance, but was an annoyance to see). My car will be going out of warranty at he end of this year, and did not want to have issues going forward or if I decide to keep, trade to sell my car.
That being said, comparing the two tunes, I find the .v2 to still provide plenty of power, in fact seems to smooth out the car's performance through-out the power band compared to the .v1. The .v2 seems to have shaved some of the rougher edges off the .v1. The .v1 dyno numbers show near max torque delivered very early during acceleration which provided a "white knuckle" steering wheel grip (at least for me), but also CEL's. The .v2 torque delivery is now more linear and builds as the car accelerates. Without a head to head 1/4 mile race between two comparable cars, one with the .v1 and one with the .v2, to determine whether the .v2 is inferior to the .v1 (and then by how much). The .v1's greater TQ delivery so early definitely is noticeable although the .v2 is still very quick and more controlled IMO. Here is a Dyno chart comparison of the two tunes. A couple of things worth noting. 1. Base HP and TQ numbers (369/415) for the .v1 car compared to the .v2 (381/401). Likely due to conditions when cars were tested. Note- The .v2 car produced more starting stock HP and tuned HP compared to the .v1. 2. .v1 graph start at 2500 RPM, the .V2 starts at 2000 RPM. Take away what you will from the comparo. 44 lb ft of torque diff between the two cars based on the two runs (favor the .v1), +4 HP (favor .v2) also .v2 carries slightly higher TQ in the higher RPM range.. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...&postcount=129 My car with the .v2 has smoother power whether I drive the car normally or under harder acceleration. Car is still blazingly quick for what it is. Overall, the .v2 still provides a noticeable boost in performance from stock. |

Thats a great update thanks @USA-RET. I spoke w Dinan and the install is super easy - not required to be installed by a dealer. They said just make sure to follow the instructions (disconnect battery, wait 5-10 mins, keep keys out of range etc etc).
Its on my list along w the springs and exhaust. Just need to figure out if I want to do the F8x LCAs or the Dinan Camber plates as I still feel like the car drives on its heels. The extra power with v2 wont help that at all - except for wearing the tyres quicker!!

My shop took ½ hour to install the unit. This included reading the directions, looking at the components, etc., etc. So it is indeed a very quick and easy install. I would argue that the V2 is a unit well worth considering.

Agreed. I am coming from a Elite .v1 (which was a beast). That much torque so early in the power-band was amazing (and a bit scary).
I was throwing CEL's every 3rd or 4th restart and they would erase in the same number of re-starts. No change in performance w/ or w/o the CEL, but since my car was going out of warranty, I thought it wise to go with the .v2 since having CEL's is not a good option to routinely have. I can say the .v2 is still crazy fast. If you get your head wrapped around published numbers you could be unnecessarily influenced since the .v2 seems to give up a substantial amount of torque. In day to day driving your car will still be a handful with the .v2. "Butt Dyno" (at least for me) doesn't display a substantial loss of performance. 1/2 throttle with the .v2 will still illicit a "holy $#!t" response. That being said, if you have a brand new car, and do not care about your factory warranty, there are other higher output options. If you want to maintain coverage for your car, the Dinan .v2 Elite is worth considering. |

All of these tunes are lots of smoke n mirrors ...
I have yet seen one advertisement stating exactly what the parameters are that they're changing and only mention HP/TQ. Can't say what the fuel ratio/rpms are, or Timing settings. Transmission changes if any... Scary if not knowing what AFR they're setting the tune to... Because that is what'll ruin your engine! Stock they run lean enough... But yeah, be happy with what HP they tell you you'll get. |

I've met with Steve Dinan on two occasions and thereby came to understand his approach and philosophy. That's why I was quite confident buying the Dinantronics Elite V2.
Yes, when it comes to tunes, it's buyer-beware. I don't see Dinan fitting into that category. That is, I have complete faith and trust in what they publish. To be clear, I also am not familiar with the purveyors of the other tunes in the marketplace. In that context, if I were in the market for a non-Dinan tune I would look to a trusted source for advice regarding which to choose. From what I've seen on this forum, there are few owners who have an idea of how to do this. FWIW, I've learned from top tuners that these are the basics when it comes to street tunes: 1) Reliability; then, and only then, 2) Power. The exception is when owners want big numbers. In that case, an owner needs to go to a tuning shop that caters to their need. And believe me, there are a lot of shops ready and willing to present big numbers. Those shops are capable of presenting owners with what they want to see.
