High pressure fuel pump tapping

Hi everyone my 2015 M235i has just started making a loud ticking from the hpfp. I have 42k miles on the car. I probed around the engine bay with my stethoscope to narrow down where the noise was coming from and its not the injectors, and is coming from the pump. I do not run anything other than 93 in it so no e85. i read post about increased noise when running e85. My question is there anything we can do to get ride of the tapping, I hate to pull an otherwise working fuel pump and replace it only to continue to have the noise.

Could try to run a tank of Techron fuel system cleaner and see if it clears up.

Just added that to the most recent fill up hopefully it helps. I usually run BG44k for fuel system treatment just can't locate it locally right now and its about 5 times the cost of techron

I don't know that BG products are good - a tech and once told me BG has all kind of promotions to techs that dispense the most amount of their products.

Maybe I'm wrong.

I have had great results with this product over the past 30 years. I have no.idea about how BG does any of their business but most companies regardless of industry will have some sort of incentive program to sell more product. Take you car into any instant oil change place and see how much they try to up sell unneeded services or products.

so after 2 tanks of fuel and injector cleaner the tapping has been greatly reduced. That was until today i found a local gas station that has ethanol free 90 octane. Its a little higher in price but well worth it, the ticking is now completely gone.

Is that high enough octane for max performance? I know the DME can adjust but does the car feel any slower with 90? They recommend 91 minimum but I use 93; can't find any non-e stations though.

from what i have read 90 octane non ethanol is the about same as the 93 octane at a 10% ethanol blend.

It doesn't really work that way, they blend the ethanol to achieve the 93 octane, but 90 pure gas is still 90 octane. Should be fine on a stock car since 89 is the min.

BMW recommends 91 octane for our cars, not sure why anyone would choose the minimum of 89, E or not.
