I'm looking for an aftermarket air filter for my M240 and would like some opinions. I've always had good luck with K&N, currently have an AFe in my '07 F150 with 210,000 trouble-free miles on it. I'm seeing these Pipercross foam filters and I'm curious if they are any better or worse. So what's the general consensus? Are these 3 generally equal? Is there another option I'm missing? I am under warranty for another 18 months, does the dealer care about an air filter mod?

I believe you're writing about the engine air filter. Don't bother trying an aftermarket set up. BMW engineers spend a lot of time making sure that the air flow into the engine isn't restricted. Just buy the proper Mann air filter.

There's a lot wrong with that statement and implications that BMW or any auto/engine engineers have designed an unrestricted air entry into an engines intake! And these BMW's are not immune to that "problem"... Let alone of someone is dropping a tune and dialing up some settings, or quite frankly, vice/versa, that increasing airflow by "UN" restricting intake airflow would require a re-tune to maximize benefit from it.

See... Engineers don't maximize the airflow, or channel the intake to recieve the coolest air. They design just what meets acceptable levels to meet goals. Same goes for the factory "tune" as it's designed to meet a broad range of possible environmental input, like location for example, the same car must operate in Florida as it does in Colorado without a trip to the dealer... So the generic tunes placed in vehicles can benefit from an "IN Car" tune that measures and accounts for where the car actually is. And different In Car tunes for different times of year, and or purpose also maximize performance benefit.

Point is, the manufactured design of the Air Intake on MOST vehicles is lacking, to say the least. Lmao!

AFE dry, using in this and many of my other previous turbo cars... from what i've read, stay away from anything oiled...

BMC -- Wipe off the excess oil and use it as a Dry Filter.

With a tune ~ allowing for greater air flow and turbo spool sounds.

I use proram dry air filter. Also used these on my past cars, golf R, audi. No issues.
